Default Unlock a Nokia 6300

I switched providers (from Fido to Rogers) and I was going to turf this phone, but I changed my mind and want to keep it instead of using the phone they gave me.
I popped in my rogers sim card and it tells me that I have to enter a code. Can anyone help?

I don't want to call fido and ask them because they'll notice that I just went in for a replacement phone (my old one was having some weird glitches). So they just replaced my handset and now I switched providers. Something tells me they'll tell me to bugger off.

What the hell is up with locking phones? This thing is (was) a moderately expensive piece of hardware. I got it for $150 PLUS contractual obligations. I fulfilled my contract before switching and now I can't take this phone with me? That's B.S.
[/rant]

I found a site that says it generates unlock codes, but my model isn't in there... IF anyone can help me, I'll send you the IMEI number.

You're out of luck, the 6300 is a BB5 phone, you'll have to call Fido to get the code. There's currently no aftermarket solutions for it.

Well that's pretty damn annoying. Fido, for all their screw ups during my contract with them, is officially on my s*it list. Why I ever strayed from Rogers is a mystery. Funny that Rogers now owns Fido.

Ahhh, the illusion of competition.

Donkey balls!

I called Fido and she told me that it was illegal to unlock the phone and to forget about it. NO CODE FOR YOU!

Phone Nazis.

Illegal? BS

But I doubt they are required to help an ex-customer, either.

This is so lame. I can't even put my fido sim card with all my contacts into my rogers phone to download them. Anger level rising.

I'm not an ex customer. I just ported one of my numbers to rogers for business purposes. I still have a $60/month line with fido that is going to get cancelled unless they unlock this phone for me.

Does anyone in the great CP sphere work for Fido?

This is why I always save all my contacts on the hardware itself and bluetooth it to my laptop for backup

Your best bet is just to buy an unlocked phone, check out tigerdirect.ca or expansys.ca they got a bunch there.

I found a couple people on the internet that claim to be able to unlock the phone. One outfit just sounded sketchy. Dude was a struggler. The conversation went something like this:

me- Can you unlock a Nokia 6300?
him- uhh... Yeah. Ummmm... Yeah.
me- cool. How much?
him- ummm. Those are hard to unlock so that one will be... Ummmm... $80
me- $80? Damn. Well where do I go if I want this done?
him- ummmm.... you can take it to our office...
me- and where is your office?
him- ......ummmmmmmmmm........17th and 4th
me- ok... I'll drop by when I have time
him- oh, uhhhhh... you have to call me first.... and we'll meet. And I need to keep the phone for about an hour...
me- do you have a waiting room?
him- no, I'll meet you at 17th and 4th, take the phone and the money and then meet you again in an hour.
me- right, buddy. *click*
