Default Opera and Vista

I like speed. Opera is fast. I like Opera.

Problem is Opera seems to be insanely unstable, hanging for a few seconds randomly but never actually crashing. I have a friend using Opera on on his XP machine who claims that this is not an issue for him so I am guessing it is a Vista issue.

Anyone use Opera who can give me their account of stability on either OS? Or if this has bothered someone enough that they have already found a fix, a point in the right direction would be nice. Google has come up with nothing recent, mostly early Jan 2007 issues that are supposedly fixed.

If I need to forget about Opera to have some reasonable stability then I will, but I would rather have it available if possible.

Opera is fantastic, I can't use anything else anymore. I have been using it on XP for about 5 years now, no instabilities. I love it much more than Firefox. I'm so used to all it's features, especially the zoom function that actually enlarges any media (pictures AND video) on your screen which no other browser does. So much easier to just manually zoom flash videos from Youtube to whatever size I want by scrolling my mouse wheel.

Not sure why Opera is being bumpy for you, perhaps your cache size could be increased? Opera has a funny cache system where everything is saved into a single cache4 folder and if the cache size isn't big enough or your harddrive is slow, it might seize up when writing to it sometimes I suppose? Anyway try adjusting the memory and disk cache options in preferences and also set it so that it only checks for updated pages every few hours or so instead of every few minutes.

Try Firefox 3 beta 5. It's insanely fast. Faster than Safari and they've fixed the memory leak.

Very stable in Vista and freaking flies on OS X.

This is true. Though Safari "feels" faster to me.

Once Firefox 3 comes out as a release version I'll be evangelizing it to everyone I know. But for now it's Beta'ness has broken most of the good extensions I use.

Should be out by June!

I have tried Firefox 3, and like it. However I really like the fact that opera doesn't Reload the page that you go back to since one of the websites I use with it has a fit if you use the back button with Firefox but not with Opera, and it is due to the refreshing of the old page causing problems. . If you could set Firefox to do that I would again return to my Firefox overlord with glee.
