Default 3DS Max Help

Any 3DS Max gurus out there? I'm in need of some serious help.

First problem.

So I have created a CAD drawing of a building and exported it into 3DS Max 2008. I have specified different materials for different objects in CAD and I thought these materials transfer into 3DS but when I render the object in 3DS all I get are the object's wireframe colours from CAD. I know I can specify materials in 3DS, but I am trying to avoid this extra work if I can get the materials to crossover from CAD.

Next problem.

I can create a walkthrough with a camera of the building using basic animation of the camera, but this is where I get stuck.

I go rendering > video post and add a new scene event of the camera. I execute the event, it runs through and does its frame by frame rendering but I cannot for the life of me save it as a video file that shows the walkthrough I created.

I can save the last frame of the animation as an .avi file, but I can't figure out how to get the complete walkthrough out as a .avi, .mpg, etc.

Its been probably 6 years now since I've last used 3DS. I'm probably totally off base with getting the video file saved but I'm stuck, frustrated, and losing patience in a hurry. Anybody with any suggestions??
