Hmm. Is it Chipotles? They use organic tofu. What could be more Kensington than that?

Hayden Block Smoke & Whisky is opening up next month, I believe at the old yard house location.
Quote:
Located in the heart of Kensington, at the old Hayden Block building, Hayden Block Smoke & Whiskey will serve Texas-style barbecue and sides, hand-crafted cocktails from a list of over 100 whiskey and spirits, cold beer on draught and a carefully selected wine list on tap. We are excited for you to join us this summer in our restaurant and outside on our backyard Whiskey Garden.

I'm looking forward to Hayden Block. The Yardhouse was a dump.
Side Street is still my go to in Kensington. Great staff and the cheapest Coors Banquet draft I've seen in town.

Went to Hayden Block for lunch today. Everyone in my group enjoyed their lunch and it has a fun feel in there. Definitely a big improvement over Yardhouse

I drove by today and noticed it was open. Looks decent. I might check it out this weekend.

Anyone know who or what is going into the St Johns building?
There is a notice for a development permit for a "digital media sign" or something

No complaints here! Beats a bank, a salon or a liquor store. Although I think there was a DP for a liquor store.

I find Red's to be really over-rated. Everything is way too salty.

The Kensington Thread
Is Red's actually over-rated? I haven't seen many insanely positive reviews. Personally, I found it to be a decent place to grab breakfast on occasion.
I don't know anything about their after breakfast menu selection though. Do they serve lunch and dinner?
Edit: Just looked at their menu. Holy crap, they got expensive since I was last there a couple of years ago.

Druh tweeted last night that the first ever Calgary Pop-Up Library is also coming to the Lido in September.
So I wonder if it is like a temporary location in one of the retail bays until it gets leased out? Neat idea actually.
Edit: Got some more info from Druh. This will be a temporary library, the city is looking at the Triangle site redevelopment to incorporate a TOD Micro-Library in the future. Similar to the Biblio Metro in Medellin.

I ate at the Hayden Block Smoke and Whiskey last night.
Food was good.. But everything was cold, which was disappointing. Prices were good though.

I was walking by with my friend last night, Osteria is in the corner by the alley and the sushi place will be the main dining hall of Osteria? That's what I took from it.
Bizarre stuff though having another sushi restaurant in Kensington.

Finally made it in to Hayden Block for the draft. Had a bunch of bourbon, some brisket, corn bread and potato salad. Brisket is really solid, corn bread pretty good (hard to make corn bread bad) but obviously nowhere near the league of somewhere like Anju. Still, worth a visit.
Main problem: change the gimmicky, tacky music. You can have a playlist of modern appalachian folk if you must, but damn, it doesn't have to be... That.
