I just took my first ride on a bird and they have some pep to them. I could see riding one daily it was fun.

Calgarians are scooting two-to-a-machine, and lots of kids have been taking them for a spin.

It looks like a lot of fun, but both are against the rules. City regulations say riders must be 18 years old, and both companies allow only one rider at a time.

"I don't want to use the word punishment, but enforce that 18 and over — as part of a customer sign-up, they agree to all the terms and conditions."

Users can ride only on sidewalks, on pathways and in bike lanes. It is illegal to ride them on city roads.

Bird Canada CEO Stewart Lyons says people just need to be responsible.

"Just like a bicycle, would you put two people on a bicycle? Not too often, right?"

Wait, why would Bird lock their scooters at seemingly their primetime (bar hopping) time? And don't say its because they don't want people drinking and scooting, because that effectively is their bread and butter in most markets.

My wife and I went for a walk along the river pathway today. We probably passed 15 of these scooters and were tempted to try one. We didn't find any that were actually usable, as they were all >10% power.

I saw a lot of people riding doubles, though, which I'd not have thought of before seeing it.

I had way too much fun on these... I had yet to check out any of the breweries so a couple friends and I went to Cold garden, rode to 88 and then to a traditional pub, over to east village and finished on 17th ave.

The last few stops were a challenge in terms of finding scooters with enough juice in them which sounds like it is a common problem. I wonder if an establishment off the beaten path would benefit from having a "charging station". Perhaps the rider gets "X" free minutes if they bring a scooter under 30% and take off in a freshly charged one. The establishment sees extra business, the scooter company pays for the station and charging (as they already pay people to charge them) and there are less dead scooters out and about.
