I have nothing to add, except that at our last family picnic my Aunt wore a tie-dye Woodstock '69 t-shirt. Everyone made fun of her but I thought it was awesome.
Two major reasons while you'll never see a major festival like that.
1) The music world is moving away from major artist/band success that can be lived off of for decades. Now it's about new artists breaking through (mostly on social media) with a hit or two and an album, blowing up on social media and then becoming much smaller due to the critical mass of new artists being discovered.
2) Artist/Band fees for major recording artists are astronomical now a days. To pull off the star power of the original Woodstock, hell even Woodstock 99, they'd have to charge like $1500 a ticket and have huge numbers sold at that price.
The Woodstock Generation crap never appealed to me. Most of it was just Boomer narcissism. Music was mediocre, barely experimental, and rebellion for the sake of rebellion.
Yes, that is just a hot take, I know, but god, I cannot stand 90% of those musicians.
The hold they have over even our present culture is honestly just a sign of people's mediocre taste in music.

Liability and law enforcement has changed as well.
They pretty much body cavity search people entering some festivals these days. Plus there is far more structure and order. Capacity is strictly enforced. Everyone gets an allotted space for parking. You need a crazy expensive license to sell food, which is crazy expensive. Basically, "festivals" are now corporate events.
The closest thing to a "Woodstock" type free festival is probably burning man.
Woodstock 2011 Poland, was said to have over 700,000 people.
Watching the documentary in the OP, it was a miracle that Woodstock was not a huge disaster. They had to change venues with 3 weeks remaining and were totally unprepared for the number of people that showed up.

Sorry, sorry.
You don't like Sha Na Na?
I'd say Santana, Sly, Ten Years After and Hendrix gave great performances.

It's hard to put what was going on into perspective now, after seeing what baby boomers eventually became. However, at the time their rebellion and attitude was totally in opposition to the 50s/early 60s era extreme social repression. Not only was culture horribly censored and repressed but the cold-war anti-communists functioned as thought police, invading every part of life.
Even music, was heavily controlled and censored. Things like distortion and playing slightly out of tune or off-beat, were considered extremely experimental at the time.
Everything was also in the context one of the most brutal and definitely most pointless American wars ever.
Seeing what many babyboomers actually became, and how they basically betrayed everything, but the self-indulgence, really makes it hard to appreciate the good of the "hippy" movement.

Having been to many festivals around the world, I'm honestly surprised their isn't more deaths at these things. While they are very organized and 99.9% of the people there dont' cause problems, I've been in some absolutely wild overpacked crowds during peak hour while everyone is drunk and rolling, and felt fear many times.
I went to Tomorrowland in 2016 and got caught in a massive crowd of people bottlenecking in an extremely poor exit and there was nothing the staff, police or crowd could do. I didn't hear any news stories about that, but I'm certain many people were injured that night.
Terrifying the feeling of an ocean of people pushing you from behind....

Quote:
Between 200,000 and 1.4 million people were reported to be attending the event and 3,200 police were on hand.
What a bizarre estimate. You'd think you could pull a little closer to actual numbers than a range of 1.2 million.

Jimi Hendrix was doing things with a guitar that no one had ever heard or seen before at that time. Sure, it may be boring old classic rock today. But to a 1969 audience, that stuff would have been pretty damn innovative and mind-blowing.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
I still think this was the best part of Santana’s set, besides the fact that he dropped acid right before they went on because he mistakenly thought they weren’t scheduled to play until 8 hours later. His face tells the whole story:
