Matthew Tkachuk’s Next Contract
Sorry if Fata, quick search didn’t net any results. Points keep piling up. His presence grows every game. Man we have a player on our hands! Thanks Oilers and Canucks for passing.
Begs the question how much does it cost? With an increased cap it’s safe to assume he becomes the highest paid player on the team. But just how much will it cost? Will it crack 50M? 60? Can we get it under 8M AAV? I think it would be nice to get done soon as possible but from the players perspective may as well ride the season out.
Curious to see thoughts from the community.

I think it's a safe bet that he'll have the highest cap hit on the team next season.

It’ll be a big one. Hopefully not too big. If anybody can keep it under 8 it’s our Grand Wizard

6.5 x 6 years. I would be over the moon with that deal. Tkachuk understands more than anyone that having a friendly deal keeps the team competitive for years to come.

We might have to ask the city to pay for a portion of it.

You would be over the moon but it sure as hell is not happening, most certainly not if he finishes above 1 ppg. Even if he finishes a little under, we’re talking about one of the best two way wingers in the game. He’s an elite defensive player. He’s an elite #### disturber. And now he looks like an elite scorer.
No matter what it is it better be 8 years. My guess is 7.5x8 but 8x8 wouldn’t surprise me.

i would be thrilled with 8x8. If he goes 6 years than matching Gio and Johnny contract. I think they should go 6 years to avoid any locker room issues since Johnny might not like Tkachuk getting a huge deal after he was lowballed by the Flames.

I would be ecstatic with 7.5x8, but I really think it's gonna start with an 8 or 9.

8x$7.75. Brad's not going to completely cave here but he's going to have to set a new standard with Matthew.

7M per for 5 years.
Signing an 8 year deal coming off an ELC doesn't make sense with the cap going up every year. The player gives up too much on the back end.

Sounded like they were close at one point this summer. Too bad for the flames it didn't get done. 4 years of team control at 5-5.5 or so a year and probably 9 or so per UFA year. 7.5x8 would be my guess. I think they see him as a future captain and will go real long term.

I think Treliving goes 6 or 7 years to save some AAV and keep as much cap flexibility as possible.
6 years at $6.75; or
7 years at $7.
I don’t think he gets close to $8M.
