Not surprised, he's seemingly shaken off the rust he played with under Yeo and has become one of the Blues' best players down the stretch.

This is the "play hard and if you get injured we've got you covered" contract.

Thats probably the best value contract any team has ever gotten for him.

Would I take Bouwmeester for less money than Kris Russell? Hell yeah.

Took a long time to recover from his hip surgery
He contemplated retirement earlier in the season because he was playing through so much pain
Then, like the team, Bouw improved, and paired with Parayko, became Berube’s shutdown pair, and one of many reasons for the Blues turn around

Oh yes, a guy who's game degrades under pressure worse than any other hockey player I have ever seen is just a fantastic D man. With the exception of team Canada carrying him one year the guy has been a career loser. Perhaps you should go back and look at the tapes of when he played for us and how terrible his game became when the pressure was on. I would not want Bouwmeester back if he volunteered to play.

And we would get bounced in rnd 1. I would take Russell everyday and twice on Sunday over Bouwmeester, even if he is full of Oiler stink now.

Going to explain or are you just doing a fly by for thanks from posters who obviously choose to ignore how bad Bouwmeester was for us? Kris Russell played way better for us AINEC.

Anyone who depends entirely on shot blocks for their defense (and that was 100% Russell) isn't a very good defenseman. He had his moments but I was never all that impressed with Russell.

I still take the guy who blocks shots and gives an all out effort to help his team over the buttery soft guy who's game regresses under pressure. I am not saying Russell was great or even a guy I would take over any of our current D men but at least he showed up.

I will always stand by the assessment that Bouwmeester was put in an awful situation here under a very lost coaching staff. He didn't live up to anybody's expectations but I don't think it was his fault, and I think he started showing a lot of improvement once Hartley came along. He's played exceptionally well in stretches for St. Louis.

I'll take neither, thanks.

Kris Russell, are we talking about the same player? Kris Russell is heart and soul, but he was horrible defensively. He's a frantic puck chipper, this type of defenseman is archaic and completely detrimental to modern NHL hockey where possession is key to winning games.

Yes, he has played so well in St Louis that Blues fans on another board have been hoping for the past two years he would be put in waivers. Was it is also his fault he couldn't even help his team's make the playoffs for most years? It isn't his fault his game falls off in last quarter of every season? I would bet any amount of money if you watched Bouw during his time as a Flame you were on him constantly because we all were.

Both were a nightmare in their own end and got manhandled but at least Russell would try and block pucks. Bouw was not worth the $6M he made with us and he is not worth 3.25 now. If they signed him as a 7th who could fill in occasionally for half that I could understand that.
