That's what I was thinking too - the other way he reminds me of Toews is he is also one SERIOUS dude.

Very Toew-esque.

I don't see how he doesn't stay up unless his game falls off a cliff in the next 5 games. Either way, I still hope they release him for Team Canada.

It's awesome to see both baertschi and Monahan playing great and on the same line...stempniak has been the perfect fir for those two with his speed, forechecking and 2-way game. I love how that line is producing because of their forecheck.

I know it's early and there will be ups and downs as the season goes on but it's exciting to see the kids playing so well. Remember, this is only the beginning. We have poirier, klimchuk, gaudreau, jankowski, granlund, ferland, and more that are being developed. The best part about this flames rebuild is that it truly looks like we're going to get better every year as more and more kids battle it out for spots.

With the oilers, it always felt like Hall, Yakupov, and RNH were shoe-ins for NHL jobs right after being drafted. Can anyone name a single prospect they had to beat out of that spot. Monahan truly has to earn this spot as the 3rd line centre cause their are guys like Knight, Horak, and Reinhart who are ready to jump at the opportunity and have all impressed this organization. Next year... Left wing positions will have to be earned by guys like gaudreau, granlund, and klimchuk. Same with the right wing with guys like poirier, ferland, and (maybe) jankowski. It feels like a real meritocracy and that's how a winning team is built.

How was Sean on the dot tonight?
I think I heard TSN say he was only 2 for 9 after two periods?

I'm impressed, and if he is playing so well with Baertschi it seems like a win-win. I guess realistically though you have to look at how long the Flames will be in rebuild mode.

I was worried about him being stuck in a negative atmosphere, but that doesn't seem to be a problem with this team.

Wonder how many goals he will score in the next 5 games. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he gets 5 in 5.

Sigh, what I saw tonight was upsetting. Sean is incredibly lazy. We all know Sean has to score at above 1 ppg to stay up, that much is obvious. Sean knows it too.

So what did he do? He gets TWO points tonight just so he can mail it in Friday. Disgusting. What next, a 3 point night just so he can take the rest of the week off?

He had so much promise too.

@fan960boomer: After the game Monahan is going to go and finish up the ring road. With his bare hands. #kidcandoitall

Sven looked like he was going to have his way with the NHL too when he had played his first few games. And we all know now that it's little harder than it first appeared for him to become a bona fide regular productive NHL player. But that's gonna come eventually.

There's no denying what we have seen so far of Sean has been really impressive and it bodes well for the future.

If they do send Sean back to junior, watch out. With this confidence he has right now he will absolutely tear up those kids.

Hey Sean, Calgary is feeling really blue about this expensive hula hoop they put up as public art, but I know you can make it into something useful. You have 5 more games to figure it out.

If he makes it past 9 games, I'll go buy his jersey... and patiently wait to stitch the C on it in a few years..

This is the quote of the day on the main NHL webpage. Pretty cool.

He was my new favorite Flames the day we drafted him. Had no doubts! (not to be that guy). Although Johnny Hockey may very well steal a place in my heart next season.

Jay Feaster:
You know, a town with money's a little like the mule with the spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it and danged if he knows how to use it.

Bob Hartley:
Heh-heh, mule.

Jay Feaster:
The name's Feaster, Jay Feaster. And I come before you good people tonight with an idea. Probably the greatest—Aw, it's not for you. It's more a Winnipeg idea.

Mayor Nenshi:
Now, wait just a minute. We're twice as smart as the people of Winnipeg. Just tell us your idea and we'll vote for it.

Jay Feaster:
All right. I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll show you my idea. I give you the Calgary Monahan!
(everyone gasps)

I've sold Monahans to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Battleford, and, by gum, it put them on the map!
Well, sir, there's nothin' on earth like a genuine bona-fide electrified six-two Monahan! What'd I say?

Stephen Harper:
Monahan!

Jay Feaster:
What's it called?

Murray Edwards:
Monahan.

Jay Feaster:
That's right!
Monahan!

Cast:
Monahan...monahan...monahan... (continue over the following lyrics)

Alison Redford:
I hear those things are awfully loud.

Jay Feaster:
It glides as softly as a cloud.

Ken King:
Is there a chance the track could bend?

Jay Feaster:
Not on your life, my President friend.

Fotze:
What about us brain-dead slobs?

Jay Feaster:
You'll be given cushy jobs.

Lanny McDonald:
Were you sent here by the devil?

Jay Feaster:
No, good sir, I'm on the level.

Police Chief Hanson:
The ring came off my pudding can.

Jay Feaster;
Take my pen knife, my good man.
I swear, it's Calgary's only choice!
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!

All:
Monahan...

Jay Feaster:
What's it called?
Monahan...
Once again!
MONAHAN!

Colley-Urquhart:
But McLeod Trail's still all cracked and broken.

Alderman Carra:
Sorry, "Mom", the mob has spoken!

All:
Monahan...
Monahan!!!!!!!!!
MONAHAN!!
MONAHAN!!!!!

Hartley:
Mona—D'oh!
