Which player has a better chance of scoring 20 goals next year? It ain’t Lucic.

I wonder if Neal just wanted to go to EDM with Smith.

Given the openness of wanting to get rid of Lucic over last couple years, his brutal performance and ball and chain of a contract, how do you not extract their first born also as part of this trade???? Just say "no deal" until Holland calls back and gives up a guaranteed 1st rounder and/or takes back enough salary to make you happy.

Neal was next to useless, and between the two Alberta teams Lucic made the bigger impact.
But given the word out there that Neal was working hard in his off-season, the smart move would've been to wait until the deadline to consider this trade.
Is it possible to get pre-Oiler Lucic from this guy? He's a few years removed now.. doesn't seem likely.
But ####, who knows..new surroundings do things to players sometimes.

It would be beneficial to have Tkachuk on the 2nd, Bennett on the 3rd, and Lucic on the 4th line. I also hope sometime against Edmonton we have a Lucic - Bennett - Tkachuk line deployed to stir up ****

Lucic may be somewhere we can't sign anything or something.

Should have just bought out Neal if they didn't want him back. All the fans that ripped on Neal constantly the last year can simply recycle the same posts removing "Neal" and inserting "Lucic". The worst part is Neal is probably going to be back to 20 goals next season going forward. The Oilers got better today and the Flames got worse. Never a good day when that happens.

The owners are probably sick of Treliving's buyouts. And a buyouts are generally terrible.

That’s a 2M cap-hit for the next 8 years.

This reminds me of when we signed Bertuzzi-he was too old, slow, cement-headed, we're not fans any more, etc
He was a fan favorite by the end of the year....

Well, my hope is what has happened with other players... Hall, Eberle, and Strome are prime examples of players that look happier and play better on their new teams when leaving Edmonton.

And I suspect Neal shows no sign of improvement. I feel for him in a way as physically he seems checked out but when he speaks he sounds like he wants to regain form.
Then the news comes to pack your sweatpants, and you are likely 100% checked out.

That's the price a GM pays for handing out poor contracts to players. Replacing one whipping boy for a worse whipping boy IMO isn't a solution.

You do know there are other factors to this right? Neal wasnt going to get 20 goals on the third line.. for 20 goals, he needed to be on the first line. Were you willing to risk a massive drop from Lindholm by placing Neal on the top line?
For example, Neal may have increased his totals by 20 points on the top line while Lindholm could have dropped by 30 points not playing on the third line. Is that worth it?

We're really putting the "better after Edmonton" theory to the test here.
History says it will hold true. Let's pray.
