hey I'm here to find out about the secrets too. I just figure it can't be much of a secret if getting a table as a walk-up is nigh impossible during normal dinner hours.
I guess one place I'd consider relatively hidden is Stromboli Inn. I do like being able to stroll up and sit down to my favorite pizza anytime (except for their excessively long winter break shutdowns), but at the same time a bit more traffic would make me feel better about them sticking around for the long haul.
oh and Begim (Uzbeki on international ave), same thing. nice to have an easy table but they deserve more customers for sure.
edit: one more, Katsuten for...katsu. they seem to have fairly steady patrons so maybe not too secret, but not yet at the point where showing up without a reso is utterly futile. very addictive crunchy stuff.

Life-long Calgarian here and I only just discovered Calypso's Greek Taverna on Centre Street. The food blew me away.
Do others know about this place?
I've been very loyal to Spiros on 33rd Street, but...

Did nights and weekends last night, they are now in that popular Ramen spot in bridgeland.
Fantastic new menu. Foie Gras/rice, maiaki mushroom, pasta, skirt steak, daikon salad, and desert were all excellent
Their cocktails were amazing too. Best old fashioned in a while.

Galaxie Diner.
Eggs benny menu, and all options are served on a croissant instead of English muffin. And having coffee outside while waiting for a table is always fun.

Shiki Menya closed?
What the hell. They had line line out the door every single day they were open. Pretty much since they opened.

They didn't close. Nights and weekend will be opening after shiki menya has finished serving (usually around 2-3pm; nights and weekends won't open until 6 or 7pm). It's actually a pretty smart model imo.

I guess you kind of have to experience it for this to make sense?

As weather permits, it’s quite enjoyable. Much better than being crammed in an entrance way. Staff (normally the same guy who I believe is the owner) walk around with hot coffee/tea, everyone sipping on mugs outside, it’s a fun neighbourly atmosphere.
Something like 5 tables and a few seats at a bar inside. The food is fantastic.

That sucks. However for people in the deep SW, Five Guys is opening a store in Shawnessy next to the Edo. It's supposed to be open within in the next couple of weeks.

I remember when Galaxy opened. Glad to hear it is still a great place.

I'm shocked Five Guys lasted that long there. Way better options nearby.

Maybe I’m in the minority on this, but Five Guys never impressed me. At least to the point others enjoy it and have talked it up in years past.
Of the diner style burger places, I prefer Smashburger myself.

No one goes down to 4th Street and says "Let's go to Five Guys!"
