Correct and it’s unprotected. This is our best case scenario for the Hanifin trade.

I'm hoping they have a big blip in 2025/26.

I'm the opposite, I respect the hell out of what they're doing.
That franchise is all about winning and does whatever it takes. I'm jealous.

The League will let Vegas have double the cap space. Don't worry about it.

Tampa won back to back doing the same, Avs as well. I hope they address the issue in the next CBA, but can't blame teams for taking advantage of it now. If Flames were in contention I would hope they'd do the same.

That's next year's problem. Vegas always acts as if the world is ending in a few months. Worked out so far.

Hanifin, Hertl and Mantha as pickups is pretty tidy work.

Easier to win when players want to join your team (and you can bend the rules)

Pagnotta on NHL network just mentioned that it's for multiple 1st round picks, including the 2025???
Looks like we're getting the 2026 pick...UNPROTECTED. I like it.

Woah that one comes out of nowhere
Funny part is San Jose was widely criticized for re-signing Hertl to that $8M contract, but if the player is actually good enough then you can still get a return for them re-signed.
If it's the 2024 and 2025 1st then that would give San Jose 3 1sts this year, and 2 next year, after having 2 last year. 7 1st rounders in a 3 year span would be tidy work.

Does make it a lot more likely that Hanifin was just a rental.
