With the ongoing best trade in Flames history, what is the worst?
Some off the top of my head:
A. Dion to Toronto for 4 pluggers
B. Brett Hull for Ramage and Womsley (yes it might have helped win a Cup)
C. Gilmour for Leeman
D. St. Louis for nothing
The whole situation was handled so poorly by the GM, media, the return, etc. It was a mess.
I'm still embarrassed.

A. Stajan isn't a plugger. He's been a heart and soul guy for the Flames. Also, the Flames won that trade with Stajan alone.
D. If I recall correctly, they let St. Louis walk.
Off the top of my head, pretty much everything Darryl Sutter did in 2010. Kotalik. Hagman. White.
I still say Sutter was is the 2nd best GM the Flames have ever had but he lost his mind there. It took him 6 months to set the Flames up to miss the playoffs for five years.
Edit - Oh, and how could I forget to mention Steve Staios. Maybe it's because Steve Staioss' time as a Flame is very forgettable.

The Phaneuf trade hurt at the time but with the way he continued down the headcase road and never seemed to revisit the early success he had... I still think it's safe to say this goal signle-handedly saw us win that trade:

That trade was terrible no matter how you spin it. One of the best young players in the game for a bunch of roll players.
It is the kind of trade that you typically do on a nintendo. Two dimes and a nickel is not worth a quarter.

Savard for Zainullin. Even if you make the dumb choice to trade savard because he butts head with the coach, how do you not even get a single asset for him.

And then fire the coach anyway.

Gotta be this one. By far.
H.M. to Anton Stralman for 3rd... you acquire a player with some talent and then don't even give him a game or two... did I mention he's a top pairing defenseman now?

Honest question, if Sutter was the 2nd best, who's number one in your mind? I, personally would not put him that high, the only trade he won was the Kipper for a 2nd round pick. I loved him as a coach, GM? Not so much.

Sutter won just about every trade he made excluding the six months where he lost his marbles.
Fletcher
Sutter
Coates
Button
Risebrough
Feaster
The book on Treliving hasn't been wrote yet but so far I'm impressed.

Phaneuf's perceived value at the time should have landed us more, agreed.
However, if he wasn't traded that contact would have become worse and worse.
I still stand by the above Stajan goal. It won us a playoff series. I still think at the end of the day that would have beat riding out Dion's contact.
