Sorry to hear this.
I can't believe he was 85. It seems like he's been 85 for the last forty years.

He was only 50 when he made Cocoon. The actors who played the other senior citizens in the movie were in their 70s.

He was great in Cocoon and The Thing. He also made a pretty good villain in The Firm.

Am I the only one who was surprised he was still alive?

Norm!
I best remember him for his role in the Firm, he was a minor heavy but he was really good as a heavy.
He's also linked to the Star Wars galaxy for his role in the now forgotten Battle for Endor TV movie.

He was great as the doctor in The Thing. I will always remember him cutting through that burned thing of fused dog and how he played it up as foul and nasty.

That's what I came here to comment, and though it was going to be an odd pick. The Don't F With Me Head of Security Guy - so well done.
