Ya, the place could do with a major overhaul- from the menu to the decor... but it has to get an honorable mention for being the only place in Calgary to serve Beef Wellington- and they do a bloody good job of it.

You continue spending $400 on shoes, $900 on sport coats and $225 on shirts and I'll go enjoy a $40 entree from Model Milk, deal?

Have never had a meal there that wasn't excellent. They do a great brunch on the weekends too.

Stop telling people about the brunch! If it gets crowded I will mount your head on a pike on the 10th street bridge as a warning to others not to blow my spots.

How is their Wednesday steak night? I've been meaning to try it out and at $40 it seems like a good deal.

One of my favourites restaurants in the city! I've been for brunch and dinner and both were great. It's a small place though, so best to make a reservation.

I had their big taste menu which was $35 for a starter (green salad or prosciutto melon), entre (added $15 to upgrade to the steak frites), and desert.
I ended up paying $50 for this and it looks like the Wednesday steak night is this same meal for $40. The aged new york strip was sliced onto a bed of Parmesan fries and was pretty good. I was not a fan of the lime aioli sauce. That was a bit too cheeky.
The service was excellent, the food was excellent. The decor is interesting (more red/black loungy) but very cozy. It's great to see a nice restaurant in such a small space.

Did Carino Reserva last week and it was excellent again. Had the Prawns and Risotto and it was very good. One thing that I like is the open kitchen, great to watch and smell people making such an amazing meal. One downside is if you are the back the finishing/heat lamp turning on and off was distracting. Felt like I should be high on something.
Anyways, great restaurant and totally recommend.

Tried the Cluck N Cleaver.
Don't get it. You make a few things, the biscuits should be off the shelf instead of hard.
The chicken skin was not seasoned. This was definitely a huge disappointment. Kentucky fried chicken taste better and it doesn't hold a candle in the wind to Model Milk buttermilk fried chicken.

Yeah, totally agree. Got the five piece box...3 wings and a rib. Hmmmm. Guess I don't get chicken math.

When I went the biscuit was perfect. I would be pissed if I got one that wasn't, since they're pricey.
Southern fried chicken is lightly seasoned, and I found CnC's to have just enough. When I make it I only use paprika, salt & pepper. Buttermilk marinading is a must.
I've never had Model Milk's chicken. I'm going to have to try it.

Anju is a favourite of mine dating back to the early house days when they opened. Roy Oh style is similar to one of my favourites David Chang. Roy is a bit more Korean leaning, David covers all NE Asia.
At any rate they are both very creative chefs and we are very lucky to have a place like Anju in Calgary. My wife is Canadian born Korean and I have spent 15 years eating Oma's food on Sunday. Roy does a great job taking Korean fundamentals and innovating with American influences. My wife and I are always excited to see how his Korean traditional dishes translate.
His hits to me include bokumbop w/ 65 C egg, that burger he did for burger week last year, the KFC sliders, the tacos, the Brussel sprouts, the ssam, and oh my lawd the chicken and wafles he brings out once and a while. So much good food.
Anyways, Calgary has so many good joints now. We used to go to Vancouver to eat but now I find the food there pretty over hyped. Calgary hopefully can keep it up with the downturn. I will be depressed if any of these stellar places close.
Oh and on another note, when you go to Anju get a Hitachino Red Rice Ale, just a perfect pair to Anju food.

Well, took my wife to Ox and Angela for her birthday. Top 3 in the city. They've revised the menu into a kind of "recession-friendly" format with more tapas at the lower range, and daily specials. Smart thinking, for sure.

Weird to hear so much buzz around Anju. I mean it's great, but there wasn't much buzz around it 3 or 4 years ago. Has the new location raised its profile that much?
