The LEDs on Telus Sky look really cool at night, but man they have to keep them in service. It looks really tacky when a couple are out all the time.

Way back in June they were still testing them and I was out there taking pictures of it and ran into the guy who is apparently responsible for the whole thing. I talked to him for a bit and he had a clipboard recording which lights were out. Said they would all be fixed before the project officially went live... that obviously didn't happen and I believe the ones still out are mostly the ones out in June.

One of the pics I got that night. Pretty sure I photoshopped some that were out to make them look on:

Spoiler!

Didn't this golf dome also collapse about 10 years ago? I recall seeing something like that on the news a long time ago.

You are probably thinking of the volley dome by the University.

Actually I found an article from March 23, 2009 that talks about the golf dome collapsing but it is the Fox Hollow one. That might be what I am remembering.

Also the soccer dome on 52nd St SE if I recall. Domes don't seem to do well in Calgary.

Of course they dont! And the Soccer Dome was a perfect example of why.

You get legendary snowfall, no heat and the only thing keeping this thing up is some rickety ribbing and air pressure.....look! People. Heat. Your. Domes.

That soccer dome was such garbage, you're playing there in the dead of winter and you can see your breath.

I know it sucks because the domes arent insulated, but you have to do something.

I was there when the Soccer Dome collapsed. I had just finished playing in that Dome and was in the Bar.

I'd have thought that the hot air from Liverpool fans would have been more than sufficient to keep that dome up?

Remember when some NFL teams practice facility collapsed? Must be over a decade ago now. The company who built that Dome was based out of Saskatchewan. I think they went under shortly after that.

Inflatable domes are really poorly suited for northern climates with lots of snowfall. Very handy as a temporary shelter; very unsafe as a permanent structure.

That didn't sound right so I looked it up. I thinking of the Dallas Cowboys practice facility.

There were two serious injuries that resulted in lawsuits settled out of court. The company that made the roof was Cover-All based out of Saskatoon. I remember because a close high school friend worked for the company as his brother was the CEO and possibly the founder. I had lost touch with him by the time of this incident.
