But that doesn't quite answer the question. What if I want a new reflective plate? I think it's a great idea. I'd love to do that and not have to worry about stickers every year (or some jagoff, peeling the sticker off, twice...) but I don't want to 'lose' my personalized plate.
|
I'm understanding that you don't have to get stickers anymore. You can keep your old plate. If you want the new plate, then you pay for it.

Boo, I collect plates and have most years for Alberta.
And lol at you plate sticker strugglers. It isn't that hard. Locke, my registration is in January and I manage just fine every year.

Sure....says the cyclist who doesnt need vehicle registration. You just ride your bike until its warm enough to put the sticker on.
I'm wise to your shenanigans.

So is this a step required for future toll roads? What type of automated readers are they referring to? Aren't our plates already readable by automated systems? How does this exactly remove the requirement of the sticker, it seems the two don't correlate.

Not against this change but I don’t understand the struggle with affixing stickers. Clean off the (correct) corner and attach it. Some people have difficulty even finding the current corner.

How come I can't renew mine online every year. My tags expired end of November and with peak covid I have to stand in line at the registry.

I haven't stepped foot in a registry in years (just once for a new vehicle) because of the online registration. You just have to do it like ten days before expiry. Do you have expired tickets every year? That's usually the only thing that requires attendance.

You guys blew up my whole worldview. I've been standing in that line like a schlub for how long? I always thought they had to physically verify the insurance info.

They haven't done that since 2017. You can sign up for email reminders or try and remember on your own.

My face is a bum!
|
Glad to hear you can keep your current plate.
They can take my 6 character, full thickness metal plate from my cold dead hands.
I can't stand how cheap the newer ones are.

I've also learned that I draw my lines in odd places.
If I'm driving and seeing a 7-character licence plate? You're a new Albertan and less valuable than me.
Similarly, if I have to pick between two businesses and one has a 403 number and one has a 587 number and otherwise seem completely indistinguishable? I know which one I'm picking....

I 'laminated' mine using packing tape because otherwise it would have turned into a dilapidated piece of scrap paper.

I scrape mine off with an Xacto knife before putting the new one on.

So no more college students stealing renewal stickers from a car in the parkade because they are too broke to renew and pay traffic fines?
Or was that just me?
