Northview Vietnamese Village by Deerfoot Mall (Deerfoot/64th Ave N) used to have the best Sate Pho. They moved to the NE (Westwinds?) several years ago, but I believe they are now closed. Are they still around?

For ramen at work we order from Ramen Tekkotsu Ya. We all really like it.

These are all on the list, I can't wait to try them.
I'll throw in my favourite pho too: if you get a chance and you're in Inglewood, Minh Chau has my favourite sate chicken pho soup. It's got the best flavors and it's just consistently incredible.

Shiki Menya is the spiritual successor to Shikiji. The son of the proprietors of Shikiji runs Shiki Menya, and the Chili Goma is still on the menu, just had it this past Friday and it was still delicious AF. You will not get their amazing sushi offerings there, though and that is a loss. Sushi Bar Zipang is just down the road from Shiki Menya, and they're darn good.
Can vouch for the deliciousness of Wakado as well.
The folks at Wami Ootoya in Brentwood Village near Kilkenny do a great job and even have a challenge to eat a triple or quadruple serving of Ramen in 30 minutes. If you make it, I think you get it for free, and then get invited back to have an eating contest with all of the people who have accomplished the task that year, and the fastest time gets a bunch of prizes. They have really nice sushi and bubble tea options there too.
Thanks for letting us know about Lambo, Trout... I've been curious about that place.

This thread makes me sad because it reminded me that we had to cancel a trip to Japan this year because of COVID.
Hopefully one of the places suggested can fill the emptiness in my heart and stomach.

Prettu much every Pho place in town serves the exact same food, but some places prepare it better than others. I cant tell if it's a franchise posing as Ma and Pa shops, or if there's a food distributer that just dominates the Pho market. I cant remember the last time I got Pho that didnt have the same spring rolls as everyone else.

I disagree with this, the pho they make at the place near my house has some of the lightest, crispiest crust I’ve tried, at least in Calgary. But it’s all down to personal preference I guess.

You should try the sate at Dong Khanh

I meant Pho restaurants in general.

There's places that are an exception to this rule, but I haven't gone to random Pho restaurant in many years that didn't have the exact same food as all the other ones.

Shiki Menya is good, but I despise waiting outside in a line, and then when you do get in the place is cramped and uncomfortable. It is good though.
Shikiji was my go to before they closed, loved that place. Wakado is pretty good too but they are stingy with the broth.
Really miss Shikiji!

Word. 2pm is the best time to go to avoid the line

Weird. I went to Shikiji maybe 8 months before they closed and while not bad, the tonkotsu didn't really do it for me. Maybe an off day. I actually found I prefered Muku in Kensington, which a while back anyways, used to be run by an actual Japanese crew.
For Pho - Pho Vi Noodle House on 16th Ave across from SAIT has been my weekly go to for about 20 yrs now (going back to when they used to be on 17th Ave SW). Sadly, they will be closing in Feb due to a delusional landlord - so enjoy them while you can. (and support a great owner!) They are set up on Skip.

If you're ever in Banff, Ramen Arashi (in the very dive-y Sundance Mall) is fantastic. Apparently they opened a location in Canmore now as well.

Amu Ramen Bar imo has taken the lead from Arashi. Broths are so damn good.

Where's that? Apparently I haven't been to Banff in a while as last I was there it was just Arashi and Chaya IIRC.
