It doesn't. It's an alternate universe type thing.

The rumours I've seen say that they might try to launch a "DC Dark" universe if it's successful.

Sheesh, Can't get their first one right... lets start another overlapping it. That shouldn't cause any issues.

Maybe they should spend less time trying to craft universes and more time making movies that don't suck.

Wonder Woman aside, I find the DC movies give most of the good parts away in the trailers.

Not true. They would need to have good parts in order to give them away.

This just looks like a movie about a clown. He doesn't look like the Joker at all.

These will likely be one shots aimed at an adult audience, as opposed to a cohesive universe. It's not elseworlds either. It's likely going to tie in with the new DC line of comics somehow.

Which, ironically, is probably a good thing. Rather than trying to shoehorn it in to their mess of a Universe.

The script for the Harley and Joker movie has been completed. It's written by the same people who did Crazy Stupid Love and it begins with Harley abduction Dr.Phil to help fix their relationship.

You know, I used to be the guy that wanted origin stories, but after Heath Ledger's Joker, I don't want an origan story, after the Joker in Suicide Squad I really don't want a Joker Origin story and for two different reasons.

The Joker in Suicide Squad just outright sucked. He was terrible, didn't make sense and was over the top for the wrong reason, so I don't care where he came from and why the Tattoo's.

With the Heath Ledger joker I really don't want an origin story because it was an amazing boogey man character who popped out of nowhere and for all his Joker is crazy stuff was the most rational character in the whole movie. So its more fun to wonder who he is.

A sociology masters candidate gone mad and the world is his lab.

A broken war vet who's come home?

I don't want a failed standup comedian origin story. I really don't want a Jack insane mobster.

I just want joker, I don't really want it laid out in detail how he got to be what he is.

I don't know man, if someone had sent me that picture without context, I'd say, not a bad cosplay but I've seen better.

The 8th film of the DC connected universe Birds of Prey just got announced with a release date of February 7 2020. Filming is set to start in January and expect casting announcements in the next few weeks.

So what DC was doing before obviously wasn't working. Theres a few OK movies depending on who you ask, but copying Marvel's approach failed for them. So now they are trying something different, this is a one off style movie showing us a new take on the origins of the Joker. I am ok with that, and I actually applaud them for trying to do something different.

I really like Phoenix as an actor, I think Walk the Line is one of the best actor portrayals of an existing character to date. I'm looking forward to what he can do with the Joker.

I think this is going to be something completely unique, something that people weren't expecting, and I think it is either going to be a love it or hate it response.

I will find this a bit refreshing as the same old plot bad guy beat em up origin to a sequel to a team up, whether it be DC, Marvel, Fox, Sony whoever.. is getting played out.

Actually I think the biggest issue is that they wanted to copy the Marvel formula but without spending the time or money to do it properly and effectively 'short-cutted' it with predictable results.

I mean, they literally made the big team-up tentpole climax movie movie without doing most of the origin story films first. They did it backwards and hell, most of the Justice League dont even have solo films yet.

Thats like if Infinity War came out right after Iron Man 1. People would be looking around wondering WTF is going on.

Not exactly. JL was the 5th film of the DC Universe while Avengers was the 6th. So its only one film different. It would be like if the MCU put out Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Captain America then put out Avengers and then right after the Thor stand alone. The way they did it now, I think Aquaman showed well enough in Justice League that the film will get a slight boost at the box office and probably safely cross the $200 Million mark. And the box office for DC’s first 5 films have made about $1.6 Billion while the first phase of MCU (6 films including Avengers) has made $1.75 billion so pretty even.

Just cause they didn’t follow the MCU formula doesn’t mean it hasn’t worked. Taking out the MCU, I think DC has been one of the best in creating a shared cinematic universe. Transformers , Pirates of the Caribbean, Universal Monsters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bond, Star Trek , Alien, Predator, Harry Potter, LOTR, Fast and the Furious all these franchises are either behind or pretty close with DC at the moment in terms of fan support and box office return. Only Star Wars and MCU are clearly ahead, and even Star Wars lost a lot of money with Solo.

I don't think Justice League was their tentpole teamup movie though. Batman vs Superman was. They swung for the fences and introduced a new Batman and Wonder Woman in the same movie. They crammed everything they could into that movie and hoped it worked. It ended up being a mess and caused them to rethink Suicide Squad.

And at the time Superman was the only one who was in any way fleshed out, even just a little.

Wonder Woman was a mystery and casual fans were wondering why Batman used guns and seemed like Iron Man.

Then they crammed Doomsday into it and the Nuclear Explosion and oh my god, it just goes on and on.

The thing is comic-book nerds are going to be nitpicky and casual fans are going to be less forgiving if you lose them and that movie was a hot mess. I've read the source material and know the characters and it was still a mess.

And Justice League wasnt much better.
