NEW DELHI -- At least one person has died and 200 others have been hospitalized due to an unidentified illness in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, reports said Monday.
The illness was detected Saturday evening in Eluru, an ancient city famous for its hand-woven products. Since then, patients have experienced symptoms ranging from nausea and anxiety to loss of consciousness, doctors said.

The current hypothesis seems to be tainted food, possibly with pesticides or another chemical.
Just from reading some of the current news articles, the people are from the same area, but there doesn't seem to be direct contact links nor do the symptoms seem like typical virus infections.
More children have it that adults, suggesting it might be from a type of food children are more likely to eat.
Who knows, the news can change fast.

While the mystery disease has baffled health experts, a preliminary analysis of test reports has established the role of chemical substances found in pesticides in the infection that left one dead.
Saw an article from India newspaper late last night suggesting pesticide/chemical exposure had been identified as preliminary cause. That said I’ve seen a conflicting report saying it was heavy metals in water too. So story still developing.
