Pretty funny that evolution is as commonly accepted by Muslims as it is by our supposedly more enlightened neighbours to the South.
I went to a symposium on 'Religion and the Human Genome' a couple of years ago. All of the major religions were represented, Islam, Hindu, Atheism, Judaism, Catholic and Protestant, and it was organized by a local mosque.
It all went pretty well, each of the representatives expressing how the mapping of the genome, and evolution, were tackled in each of their faiths. Everyone was very enlightened, and no bizarre deep south theories.
The Muslim representative read a passage from the Koran, detailing a volcano, and dust settling in patterns and such (it's been a while), after which there was a prayer, as follows a reading, I assume. What I got out of it was that Mohammad wrote what could then be interpreted as a direct instruction on the existence of the mapped genome.
Everyone was very nice, and all agreed that genetics were the work of God, and there for us to discover. (Except the Atheist.)
How Islam got to that place made me think of how a religious text could be used to support almost any position. I received insight that I'm not sure was intended. And this isn't slighting Islam, as there are many examples of Christianity finding positive judgement the same way.
Acceptance of evolution isn't always science based.
That was something that I learned.
Clearly, being part of the Canadian educational system, most people there were drawing from both sources, but it made me wonder about people without access to proper education, and believing in evolution as a religious principal, based on an interpretation.

This is a fantastic presentation of available pew data.
Although I would have preferred that they at least note that it's possible that there's a decent chunk of false positive data in any poll result on religious belief (people being more likely to respond in a manner suggesting they're more devout than they really are when push comes to shove), it's still very well done and extremely clear.
Great video, but terrifying at the same time. I'm not surprised many of the ultra lefties on this board haven't had a whole lot more to say about it.
The Islamist militants made an audacious land grab attempt outside Mosul, in northern Iraq, but came unstuck when they ran into a hailstorm of bullets and bombs from Western forces.
Around 200 crazed terrorists were mown down by elite Canadian troops who rushed to the frontline to help pinned down Kurdish peshmerga forces protect their lands from the twisted invaders.
GET SOME!!

Or are Muslims the only terrorists? I really wish people would begin to understand there are much greater threats to our society from within our own borders, and of the voting set that approve of Donald Trump, than there are from foreign means. This thread just feeds the narrative that all threats are from middle eastern people, which is an incredibly naive view to hold.
Some of the stats on the Jihadist side of the equation have suspect inclusions, and many of them home grown as well. The other side of the ledger is light as there are many attacks against law enforcement and against interests like Planned Parenthood that go as unaffiliated even though they are politically motivated and meant to cause terror.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. If people had access to DHS bulletins and the number of threats that have been identified and prevented, it would curdle their milk. More right wing extremists have been arrested since 2001 than Jihadists, and the US is willing to arrest anyone with a Middle East passport.
There is a lot more to this subject than ISIS or Al Qaeda. You are more likely to killed by a bee sting than ISIS. You are much more likely to feel the affects of a domestic organization like the Aryan Brotherhood, Army of God, the Sovereign Citizens movement or the KKK. And yes, the DOJ even admits it.
Cool, so bring it up, but feigning indignation when it's pretty reasonable that these groups are the ones mostly discussed is pretty ridiculous.
Sorry, didn't mean to come off like that. Just tired of this important topic focusing only on the Middle East when there are other examples of worse threats here at home.
