Spoke with the owner of KPub the other day. They’re scraping by but hardly thriving these days. TBQH, their takeout is surprisingly good for pub food. If you are looking for an easy lunch/dinner that helps support a local business you won’t go wrong throwing some business their way.

For sure a 7/11 is coming on the corner of 5th and Crowchild. There is another not far away by Pizza Bobs?

That one is really old and run down. I wouldn't be surprised if they close it.

I think a lot of that strip mall is getting displaced by the eventual development of the Crowchild tunnel.

So it'll be gone by 2051 or so?

Moving in to old Oak Tree space:
Everything on the menu is only $8 at this groovy new Kensington spot

For example, one of Calgary’s most popular neighborhoods just opened a groovy new restaurant and bar and we hear through the grapevine that it’s ‘Top Notch.‘
Described as ‘Kensington’s hippest little bar,’ the new eatery, which is aptly named Top Notch, is a funky little spot that believes a good time shouldn’t have to cost a fortune, an arm or a leg!

^ I hope their food is better than their branding, their sign on 10 street is hideous.
(Edit: oh, interesting to see it’s the same ownership behind Scuba Jays which has a similar “low prices minimum effort menu” vibe. I still miss Oak Tree though )

We took a walk into Kensington yesterday evening (had some books at Pages ready to pick up) and I just shook my head when I saw that sign. I know damn near nothing about graphics and design but it looks like the font you'd expect a joke or magic supply shop to have.
On another note, it was great to see people taking advantage of the nice weather and new seating put in at that plaza area in front of The Plaza and Pages. It was a perfect evening to use it, heck even that temporary container park was getting used.

It looks like a font a daycare would use.

That spot has struggled since Tullamore closed. That place had great food, best pint in town (cleaned their lines religiously), and occasionally had hurling on for your viewing pleasure.
I wanted to like Oak Tree. Nice people but the food was just not particularly good. To the point that I stopped going there
I hope it’s good but branding one’s self as hip is a bit cringeworthy. And then this:
Quote:
Food - Think veggie bites, wings, juicy burgers, beyond meat, kale salads, sweet potato creations ... you get the gist.
..
We don’t do reservations

‘Think’.
Cool
F+ for branding

I've still never found a chicken pot pie locally that comes anywhere close to what Tullamore had.

MF'er...just heard that Demetris in West Hillhurst has sold.
The awesome old Greek couple that own the place are getting up in age and apparently looking to spend 4-6 months back in Greece. Too bad there son didnt want to take over.
It was a local burger joint that bought it...but not holding out much hope they keep it. Between this and Delicious Thai closing last year, we need new Kensington takeout joints.
