Has Backlund really been bad enough to be playing with Grantham and Vandermeer in Abbotsford? If he's been playing with those guys regularly I don't feel so bad about him having only 20ish pts.
^will be interesting to see how Kassian to Windsor and Pietrangelo to Barrie will affect the ice-time and play of Nemisz and Brodie
Barrie has Brodie and Pietrangelo on the backend? Wow that is some serious firepower from the points by CHL standards (potentially reminiscent of Phaneuf/Meech with Red Deer?).

they also have Nick Crawford, the #2 scorer in the OHL, among D-men. However, that trade just puts them on par with Windsor, who have Mark Cundari, Cam Fowler and Ryan Ellis (4th, 5th and 14th in OHL scoring D-men)
Brodie and co. should be potent on the PP

He has been a disappointment apparently. He is nothing spectacular, and a little inconsistent in his intensity. Of course, this could be because of our expectations (I think it was that that he'd be able to step straight from the WHL into a top 6 role with the Heat at 20 years old).
Man, do I feel spoiled cheering for a team with the luxury of letting this guy develop right.
Goal for Nemisz last night in the Spitfires loss to Barrie.
One of the best games I've seen all year despite the loss. Brodie looked good
Zack Kassian got ejected for charging, when he totally left his feet and flew to land an open ice hit. There was coverage of the hit on TSN last night and this morning.
Della Rovere got a 5 minute major for head checking.

Backlund topic, came up last night. Sutter said, Backlund was playing well. He could be playing with 7 maybe 8 NHL teams right now. Flames however want him to work on a couple of things before he takes the next step. (in my opinion, its probably consistancy and defense.)
Well it looks like the Heat are a three game losing streak and they start off this game against the Monsters down 3-0. But they come back and Backlund's goal is the go ahead and now they lead 6-3 with four goals so far in the third.
Don't look now but Wahl has crept up to the 14th spot in WHL scoring. For a guy that was hanging further behind he really jumped up recently.
he may have passed one or two players who were away at the WJC; also Tyler Johnson being away at the WJC for the US likely gave Wahl more ice time and a bigger role for the Chiefs. Still good to see he is having another solid season
Looks like Mikael Backlund is finally finding his groove during Lundmark's most recent stint with the big club. Backlund was stuck at 16 points for the longest time, and has picked up 6 points since, including points in his last two games. Here's hoping he keeps it up and finishes the AHL season strong, he still has a chance at getting to 40 or 50 points with a strong finish.
Irving sent down to the ECHL with Victoria while Shantz gets the callup. I knew Irving was struggling, but that is a bit of a dissapointment. Hope this demotion gets him going back in the right direction.
Trying to watch the Windsor- London OHL game and I don't see Nemitz on the ice so now I'm watching Abbotsford Heat at Texas Stars on the web. It's 2-1 for Texas now in the first with Shantz in goal.
