Yeah, I'm highly skeptical about the smoke around Simmons to the Raptors. To me it's far more likely that the Raptors want to get involved as a third team, and so are phoning around talking to other teams about Simmons deals, which is getting mis-interpretted through the grapevine as them being directly interested. Lowry to Philly, Simmons to 3rd team, additional assets to Toronto and Philly, that sort of arrangement.
My favorite trade idea along these lines I've heard is Simmons to Sacramento, Lowry and Hield and future FRP to Philly, Bagley and future FRP to Toronto. I think that makes a lot of sense for all three teams, and it's a relatively easy one to balance salaries on.

As a more casual NBA fan, is there no way the Raps just keep Lowry?

They can and they might. It's up to Lowry if he thinks the Raps can make another run as well as if the Raptors want to bring him back or run with FVV, Trent and Flynn as the 3 guards. Also depends on the draft, who they end up getting.
It's funny with Lowry, there have been few instances in his tenure as a Raptor where it seemed like he was gone but he's still here for now.
-He never intended to stay up north after he got traded here.
-Almost traded to the Knicks.
-Issue with Masai after they dealt the bum derozen.
-Trade deadline last year.
-Now the free agency.
It would actually be funny if he comes back...again.

One possibility is that an ideal S&T doesn't materialize, the Raptors don't like their free agency options, and both sides agree that it's worth it to re-sign Lowry with an eye on trading him to the right team down the road. Just looking at Philly for example, right now Philly is really low on trade assets that work for matching salary. But two months into the season, any offseason acquisitions will be tradeable, so it may be easier for them to work out a trade at that point.

That’s an interesting possibility. Personally I’d rather the cut from Lowry right now. But it really depends on what that means for the benefit of the organization. With Fred, Lowry, Flynn, Suggs, it’s not ideal to have too many guards at the start if the season. But if it means a sizeable return by keeping Lowry for the deadline why not? Can’t wait for the next eight hours. Deal or no deal this will still be really interesting to watch.

I mean we still need to see what happens tonight before we see what's next for Lowry. I still think there's maybe a 1 in 4 shot they trade out of their spot. I'm still holding out hope the Thunder are insane enough to move SGA, but we'll see I guess.

excited for tonight...
Hoping the Raptors pick Suggs at 4, but interested to see if they make some deals in addition to that.
Suggs seems like a guy that's perfect for the Raptors, especially if they are moving on from Lowry. Obviously Mobley is the guy you want, but unlikely the Cavs move off the three or go off the board.

I really do think there’s a possibility of a deal to be made. There is enough teams willing to deal existing roster players, the Raps have a few of their own they could be dangling, and based on their needs they have several of who they can draft, so anything is possible (moving up, down, trading the pick, trading a roster player for picks, etc.). I’m sure their phone is ringing off the hook. Knowing Masai is in a position of power makes me know the right move will be made.
I also think they’ll be looking at the short term and becoming a contender sooner than later as a complete tear down isn’t needed.

If the Raps can't get Green, Suggs is a lock. I'd prefer Green but Suggs is one of the craziest playmakers I've seen in a long time.

If Suggs is the pick then it'd be great to have Lowry around as a mentor, even if it's just a couple of months.
I feel like he will sign with another team though.

The knock seems to be shooting. You need to be a shooter and a creator to make it in the nba. Especially where if guys are too one dimensional they’ll just give him the shot.

EDIT: looks like both the Hield and Westbrook deals are on the table, but nothing final yet.

What an ugly package going to Washington.
No more triple doubles for Westbrook.

Minnesota is trading Ricky Rubio, a 2022 2nd and cash to Cleveland for Taurean Prince. Guess that's the end of Sexton there.
Also, Philly needs to get a grip on reality. WTF.

sheesh... Philly totally overvaluing Simmons there...
Philly can't even play him in the last 2 min of a game!

Cunningham gone as anticipated. Fingers crossed Mobley falls. And damn, Cunningham had his kid at such a young age.
