Default Sutter would like to see more out of veterans (QC Online)

I also notice a pretty big jump in Brett Sutter last night. May have been because Dad was there, watching.

That's odd... I was under the impression that Stevenson had been the best player on the team all season, and by miles.

I guess Sutter would be more pleased with a 10 goal scorer who is +25.

Can't wait to see Pelech, Palin, and Pardy duke it out next training camp for a job in Calgary. That is if Regehr 2.0 and/or Giordano aren't brought back.

Sutter is our version of Nystrom in Calgary. He plays hard with good energy that will go in front of the net and He fights. He wont light up the score board but he will knock a few in. I think from 1st day of training camp to now is night and day diff. I cant wait to see him next year.

Darryl Sutter commenting on his own son. I can't help but see nepotism every time he opens his mouth. Yes Brett has improved a lot....at a rate maybe similar to Pelech......but Brett is starting from a very very low base. what a joke to mention his son alongside Pelech who I see as a solid prospect. Brett might be a good player.....but let another GM and organisation decide. Would any other GM mention BS's progress in the same breath as Pelech? This quote reminds me of a scene out of brokeback mountain:

“Both he and Brett, both turning 20 this year, are doing a great job playing in this league. It’s not easy, but it helps that they have each other and both are from a hockey background. They handle the lifestyle change very well.’’

I wish i knew how to quit BS....

Is there anyone in QC land who can add some colour whether there is anyone else who is "doing a great job playing in this league"?

I want to puke.

^Is he not allowed to comment on Sutter then. He's a prospect in the organization. He was drafted by the team's scouts with a late pick.

Is Darryl supposed to pretend he doesn't exist in the organization?

Seems like a weird thing to get worked up over.

I will preface my comments by saying that Sutter played an excellent game this past Wednesday. However, he has had maybe four or five good games all season, but aside from that he has looked completely out of place. In my opinion, he should not be in the AHL. He rarely sees more than five shifts a period, unless McGill is throwing one of his tantrums and sitting down some players. I have noticed a little improvement, but there is absolutely no comparison between how far Pelech as come this season and how far Sutter has come. I wouldn't be afraid to put Pelech in a sixth or seventh D spot on the big club right now. Pelech makes mistakes, but he stays cool and is able to correct them immediately. Sutter is, as far as I'm concerned, just taking roster spot that could be occupied by Ryan Donally or Adam Cracknell.

Yep, I agree. Sutter is only talking about a few of the prospects who are young and have improved... nothing wrong with that.. IMO

As for the older guys.... I took a look at their plus / minus (Stevenson and Krys K) combined they are -20.... for first line players that's terrible.

That would be why Sutter is not impressed with these guys.... IMO

Hey! Krahn might be ready for summer camp after he re-habs his knee!!

Newsflash - Krahn is finished. Done. The Flames have young goalies coming out the rear. Time to realize the Krahn ship has sailed.

What is a weird thing to get worked up over? Nepotism or the article?

He can acknowledge the existence of Brett without singling him out. You don't think it is strange that Sutter singles out two guys...Pelech and his son? I don't think Pelech is the second coming, but having seen only bits of both play it is obvious there is a pretty wide disparity between the two.

Come on.

While the article also says:

Sutter doesn’t like to talk a lot about his son, Brett, a rookie winger, other than to say “he’s improved every year since he started juniors as a 16-year-old. It’s tough on him because of the name he carries.’’

Sounds like he may have been asked specifically how he's doing. Without the context of what the interview was it's tough to tell.

Not really. They're the only two first-year skaters who've been in Quad City all season. Baldwin's been to Vegas and back, Cole's still with the Wranglers. Both had been spotted in and out of the lineup.

Pelech and L'il Sutter are the two rookie skaters who are roster regulars. Within the context of the story, why shouldn't they be mentioned by name by the GM?

I would guess he was specifically asked...especially since it's a reporter from the Times, which does a pretty half-assed job of covering the team and a guy who most likely hasn't seen the guys play enough times to know who stands out and who doesn't to be able to ask the right questions.

And I don't really have a problem with his response. BS and Pelech are the "young 'uns" on the team so would be paired together. That said, I'm with DS on this one...there's no comparison! (We've had a similar conversation more than once!)

Sutter's improving a bit, but I still believe he would benefit from time in Las Vegas, where he would still play the system and get more ice time. I think there could be potential there, but it's very hard to say watching his play in the QC. He's getting better at positioning in front of the net, but I'd say he's still a boy among men....

Krahn is still choosing a doctor?

FFS, how long should that take? His career has already been delayed by injuries, and while I'm sure he wants a good doctor, I would think he should have access to many specialists.
