Default What's the most painful thing you've been told?

One tiktoker I always stop swiping to watch is this curly haired fella who asks for strangers to leave notes, with the question "What's the most painful thing you've been told?"

So let's try that here? I don't have a way of it being like the CP confessional, unless people want to PM me. But we're all kind of strangers aren't we?

That my Christianity is a farce and we are living in an uncaring and indeterminate chaos.

I'll never come to terms that I will not exist at some point. There is no peace to be had with the looming idea of nothingness.

That realization has ####ed me up beyond repair.

To be fair, I'm not sure how anyone who told you that knows that to be the truth. They might be wrong, and you may continue to exist.

So you've got that going for you.

Of course nobody knows exactly what happens when you die, but all science and common sense says nothing.

At least I know I can wax my carrot without someone watching me....unless I stipulate it.

It was the day when my mom called me to tell me that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

I got dumped on my 17th birthday about an hour before I was supposed to meet up with me mates and their girlfriends for a night out, she wasn't even a bitch about it just sat me down and had the 'it's not you, it's me' and 'we will always be friends' spiel.

And yes it was her, and no I can't even remember her name

When I was 19, my sister called and was sobbing, then said "mom's dead". That was pretty hard.

Similarly, my best friend committed suicide. The worst call I've ever taken.

Yup, that was the worst one for me. 17 years old. My best friend and his older brother were up in north-central Alberta doing some survey work for an oil company as a summer job. Woke up one morning and my mom told me that they received news that the older brother committed suicide, and the younger brother found him. Shotgun blast to the face. Horrifying.

I have a few

- a good friend overdosed in our early 20’s
- good friend dying of cancer in our late 20’s, we watched him shrink from a 6’1” strong muscled man to a skeleton
- one of my closest friends killing himself in 2016, and another close friend found him
- a co-worker being murdered in 2016

Even typing this brings up feelings I don’t like

You had to remind me? That’s the best thing Netflix has ever done, in my opinion, and I hate them for discontinuing the series.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential.

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, we’d make meat helmets.

When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds – pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe.

At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. At the age of 18, I went off to evil medical school. At the age of 25, I took up tap dancing. I wanted to be a quadruple threat — an actor, dancer…

My parents both had cancer and died within a few months of each other. We were in California on vacation when I got a call that my dad had taken a turn, was in a coma and likely would never come out of it. I didn’t make it home in time but delivered the eulogy a few days later.

there are a few...
- the family meeting when we were told my dad had cancer and he had 6-8 months
- my wife and i waking up in the hospital the morning after our daughter was born (my wife had a c-section, so that part was expected), only to find that the nurses had rushed our baby to the NICU in the middle of the night
- basically the above, but it was day three for my son.
i will say this, the NICU staff at kelowna general were absolutely amazing and both our kids were so well cared for!
