I struggled some in deciding whether to include the non-hockey story in today's post,
but I did after considering three things:
1. It was an event that happened on the same day so seemed relevant in a "world of sports" way
2. The game story makes reference to the Flames squeezing in a few extra seats and people for the playoff game, so it shows that there are often various forces pressing decision makers
3. It's a reminder of how quickly things can turn bad and how grateful you have to be when things go well and turn out safely, as they did in Calgary on this day
Just an absolute dominant series. The really got their swag going here. It's a damn shame LAK beat us next year--we had their number for a minute and that includes the overall 1990 season as well. We should do a deep dive at one point on that series against them in '90. I just can't fathom how this same team plus Gary Suter gave up 12 goals in a playoff game. Ugh. Ok, need to step away from the rabbit-hole now.
I'm just happy you were able to post again. When you disappeared right before game 7 against Vancouver, I wasn't sure if you survived it.
HA! Too funny. I've covered this series so many times over the years--all I will say is we had ZERO business winning that Game 7. Mike Vernon should never pay for a meal in Calgary for the rest of his life.
ok this was becoming a fun time for me- after watching the first two rounds down East, University is over for the year. Back in Calgary , where with some hard work (lining up at the crack of dawn when day of game tickets went on sale) I was in the building for every game left..I guess that's 6 of them
BL, any chance there is some footage or photographic evidence of Doug Dadswell during this run? I had zero idea he was part of the black ace crew. More curious what sort of mask he had during this era as we're in the very early stages of the 90's goalie mask takeover.
Loved seeing that shot above of Suter as well--really felt for the guy during the back end of the season and into this run. Would have been awesome for him to get a game or 2 in during the MTL series (like M. Hunter). I'm not even sure if he's in he team photo around the Cup.
Happy Fathers day to all the dads who are following this thread, btw.

Well, aside from me writing what I wrote at the time in these reports and
me still having a recollection of seeing him (I suppose I could be
hallucinating, again), there's this in print from the 4/17/89 Herald.
