Can we just thank the Canucks and especially the Oilers for skipping on Tkachuk and drafting Puljujarvi and Juolevi instead? Man, could you guys imagine Tkachuk terrorizing the Flames for the next decade+? In another universe, we’d be the ones sounding off on how much we hate this kid. That whole 2016 draft was truly a beauty for the entire Organization.

Heck, Puljujarvi and Juolevi? Tkachuk has 10 more points than Laine (same goal count but Laine is not a passer). Thanks Winnipeg!

Oh man, if he was an Oiler, I think I might need to stop watching the NHL all together.

Everyday I praise Jesus for both teams passing on him, and for the Flames' not trading up to get JP which was what most of CP wanted.

We straight up got a franchise player at #6. Unreal!

It would be insufferable to have to watch Tkachuk and McDavid on the same line. They could have each scored 50 while driving opponents bananas. And then the Sportsnet Oiler sycophants would be drooling over Tkachuk instead of criticizing him.

No kidding, I was looking at a re-draft and Tkachuk easily goes number 3 and it's even arguable that he might go number 2. Laine is a great goal scorer but not Captain material like Tkachuk.

Kid is amazing and is providing the Flames with that secondary production that every team needs to be next level.

I was very interested in Tkachuk (IIRC, after Poolparty) and was in such a sour mood as the Canucks stood at the podium and announced they were drafting a London Knight. I was so disappointed that the Oilers were going to have that big Finnish superstar, and the player I've been so excited about all year watching London is now a stinky Canuck.

Then I looked at the stage, and I've loved Matthew Frickin' Tkachuk ever since. This kid made that draft look silly from the outset. I don't think I really knew how much I'd have hated Tkachuk on the Canucks at the time, but I definitely think I'd be skipping those games by now.

Bump. Sorry.

Would people prefer 6*~$7M or 8*~$7.5M?

I personally think the 8 year deal is preferable. However, I would be tempted by the 6 year deal if Treliving could use the "internal cap" to negotiate a 6*< or = $6.75M contract.

If we could get him for 8 X $7.5M, I would sign him tomorrow and give him a no-movement clause if he wanted it. Along with a $6M signing bonus every year.

Tkachuk is the prime example of the player you hate playing against but want on your team. What a stud.

If Chucky comes in under 7.5 for 8, you sign that contract and give him whatever structure he wants.

I feel 6.75*6 might be possible too. Things that might make it improbable: (1) Tkachuk is better, (2) Tkachuk is more valuable to the Flames than Nylander is to the Leafs, and therefore, (3) the Flames may not be in a position to go as far to get the AAV down as the Leaf's did with Nylander. However, I'm not sure if Keith Tkachuk is similar to Michael Nylander with respect to Michael Nylander's willingness to get involved and insist his son hold out for perceived fair value. Also, my perception is Matthew Tkachuk will not want to hurt the team by holding out into the season.

Further to (1) above, even my diehard Oilers' fan friends admit they would not trade Tkachuk for Nylander and that he's very valuable.

I might have remembered incorrectly, didn't someone here mentioned that Treliving was saying they were trying to trade up to the third spot, but not to draft JP but to draft Tkachuck?

Gaudreau signed for 9.25% of the cap.

The same percentage of todays cap is just over $7.3 million per.

Id say thats a pretty fair number.

Anything less will be pure wizardry.
