I was a bit surprised to not see Tommy's Pizza on there (Elbow Drive) and although I haven't tried it I find it hard to believe East Side Mario's has a pizza good enough for the top 25.

Is Sammy's really that good?

Wasim's has great pizza but their Donairs are pretty standard fare, nothing amazing. They use romaine lettuce for crying out loud, that is an immediate disqualification.

Not sure what to make of Vern's being on that list. I haven't eaten there is over 15 years. Did the quality improve since then or is it still 10 lbs of Carl Buddig luncheon meat on a crust?

i'd have to assume that the boys at sbarro's made a conscious decision not to submit a pie for this prestigous award......

i have always wondered if the jionts submitting an entry for this contest made better pies than they normally do just to get some publicity......

I've only had Spiros (average), Coco Brooks (terrible), Atlas (average) and Vern's (average).

Are the others that good? I've never even heard of a few of them. I'm a regular crust, lots of (quality) cheese and meat pizza guy, so I won't bother trying them if any of these are thin crust Famosa/Una style pies.

I tried Sammy's a year ago and wasn't impressed, perhaps I had huge expectations since it's the top rated. The pizza I got didn't have more taste than usual (sauce was pretty bland and watery), the center portion was soggy (couldn't pick up the slice) while the edge was a deep brown, and the toppings slid off the pizza easily. Didn't feel like I got much for the premium I paid and the long wait.

edit: If I had to compare it, I'd say it's close to a large version of coco brooks.

I had to google that to see what/where that is, only to find out that I've eaten there many, many times over the years.

Can't say I can review it though, due to the timing of my patronage.

Nice to see Pizza Crave on the list, as they're my neighbourhood go-to and super nice. The only thing that keeps me from eating their pizza more is the fact that their Indian dishes are just as good.

That Wild Boar Bacon pizza at Cibo is amazing. Matador makes great pizza too. I used to go there a ton when I lived in Varsity.

However, the Canadian "donair" is very different from the real stuff.
