Might be the best MCU movie they have done for me, easily top 3

the casting outside Nebula was all great, Pratt, Coopers voice, and Bautista were all perfect

they handled the comedy in it so well

Drax ("Why would I put my finger on his throat" "Nothing would go over my head... my reflexes are too fast I would catch it") and the Jackson Pollack joke were so good

The theatre had a lot of kids who were very excited. I think more parents are bringing their kids to this one as from the outset, it may appear more family friendly but the film is actually amazing for all audiences.

That factor alone may boost it's box office over that of previous Marvel offerings and if it gets young kids hooked on a feeling (of great 70s/80s tracks)...even better!

I'm not a big fan of Zaldana and I think I would have liked to see the Gomora and Nebula actressed switched to see how that would have panned out. That's probably due to bias toward Karen Gillian from Doctor Who however. Karen is also a lot taller than Zaldana but somehow appeared diminutive in the film.

The old school tracks definitely added to the fun of this movie. After watching the trailers use Hooked on a Feeling a bunch of times, I was worried they would over use it in the movie. But thankfully they only used it once, and it was only when Quill was getting his ass kicked lol.

Edit: and yeah I thought the same thing about the Nebula and Gomora castings, and I don't even watch Dr. Who heh. Nebula just had better screen presence.

Nebula was a more fleshed out character, despite her lack of screen appearance. Maybe they should have given Gamora more of a background (aside from a few minutes of exposition), but it's one of the few problems I had with the movie. I thought she was fine though, just the least interesting character of our rag tag group of bounty hunters.

I didn't think anything was wrong with the casting. But geez, I was distracted by how freaking skinny Saldana looked!

Saw this one last night.

Really good flick. Personal ranking would put it behind Avengers and maybe behind Cap2. But I loved Cap2.

Its difficult to set up an entirely new universe in a 2 hour movie and the way they jumped around in the beginning kind of reflected that, but I don't think it detracted from the movie at all.

The characters were what drove this movie, every single one of them were fantastic. The comedy was great, I felt for every 2-3 great comedic lines there was 1 that was a tad forced.

I may have mentioned this before but I wonder how this movie would be received on its own 5-10 years ago. The way Marvel has continually built this universe allows this thing to make 95 million on it opening weekend. Its still a great flick though.

I don't get the criticisms regarding Quill being a Han Solo copy. So what? Han Solo is a great character and that was what 30 years ago? I don't get the feeling Quill is a Solo ripoff. They do share similarities though.

I also don't get this whole Marvel vs DC thing. In the cinematic universe, if we are keeping score, Marvel is clearly ahead, and its not even close. But I'm excited to see what DC has in store. The buzz surrounding Batman v Superman is pretty positive. If someone were to ask me my favorite comic book characters I would say Batman and Superman without hesitation. That doesn't mean I haven't thoroughly enjoyed Marvel's offerings.

But back to GotG, great movie. It annoys me that I have to wait 2.5 more years for the next one, and even longer for an Avengers team up.

Took my 8 year old. We had a blast. Very funny, good popcorn flick.

Better than the last three star wars movies by a mile.

Oh, and people applauded at the end of the movie. I have only been a handful of movies when that has actually happened (Sadly Phantom Menace was one of them, but that was a mid-night playing on opening night)

Production value held it back a little, but honestly a great monster movie with tons of comedy and fun to be had. You could really see the same writing style that Gunn used in Guardians. I recommend it if you're looking for a solid horror/comedy.

Slither is a messed up movie, I've never really known what to think of it, but it's definitely interesting and horror fans should check it out.

It's hard to believe at one point James Gunn was really only known as the writer of the Scooby-Doo movies. But once again Marvel chooses right in its directing choice, even if it means taking another indie director with little experience behind him.

This gives me hope they know what they're doing in hiring Peyton Reed to take on Ant-Man. I've heard a few people say it was a great choice, since he has an appreciation for the universe. Then like Gunn he's also only directed a couple movies. Obviously I'm rather apprehensive once Wright dropped out, but after the last couple movies it's hard not to trust what Marvel/Disney is doing.

Technically Nathan Fillion is in GotG also.

^Awesome. Gunn has a soft spot for certain actors he's worked with. He seems heavily invested in keeping Michael Rooker employed.

Not a big Marvel fan or buff but this was fun.

Avengers is horribly overrated. This was better, and didn't half the movie on a bunch of egos clashing in a room. This movie was more of a treat for the fan from start to finish. Even the minor characters were interesting here with detail and uniqueness given to each, whereas Avengers had a dumb, generic army multiplied a thousand times. Humour was fantastic here, on another level for Marvel.

It's been a good year for them with 2 very good entries that make good movies as much as they make good comic book movies. Aside from Iron Man, most of their stuff was pretty meh prior.

What I may be most excited about coming out of this movie is that Chris Pratt is going to be starring in Jurassic World next year. He'll make an awesome next gen lead for the new JP movies.

It's a really hard year to rank comic book movies with three of them being in the conversation as the best (with Spider-Man obviously being the worst). I'd have to see them a few more times to come to an actual decision, but I'd probably rank them

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. Captain America: The Winter Solider
3. X-Men Days of Future Past
4. Amazing Spider-Man 2

Although when I think about it Captain America was probably the best actual movie of the three. Then there's still Sin City on the horizon I suppose, but I doubt it'll be better than any of the top three. I really don't know how I would rank my overall list these days, I used to think X2 was my favorite, but it was probably topped this year.

What a great year for comic book movies, after 2013 gave us nothing all that special (Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Thor Dark World).

Just saw it an hour ago. It's my favourite Marvel movie. Liked it better than Avengers. I liked the characters more. Also the fact that they could all fight one vilain rather than them just fighting the robots. Hopefully Adam Warlock will be in the sequel, that'll make for better Thanos stories as well. If they make a 3rd it'd be cool to have an Iron Man cameo. Really loved the chemistry between characters/actors.

I still rate Winter Soldier as my favourite of the summer. The fight seems were just so slick and the story line was great. GotG ranks up there with X-men though. Storyline was generic, but the dialog was so damn witty!

I just saw it, and I really liked it. It had me laughing and I liked the little references in it.

I really, really hope that Marvel doesn't try to do a Howard the Duck remake/movie. The original was just so brutally stupidly bad that the Duck concept needs never see the light of day again.
