So Dumba jumps and targets Backlund's head and nothing? This league is a f'n joke.

When you are as physical a defender as Gio, you are going to have situations like this every now and then. Clearly no intent to injure.

It should be a rule about Peters, although he didn't necessarily send him out to specifically attack Dumba. He could have just figured something might happen, so better put him out (instead of, say, Gaudreau). Especially if Dumba or someone else decides to run at someone else.
Nah. He sent him out specifically to 'atrack' Dumba, and I approve.

I’ve got no love for Minnesota.

If Koivu is out, it’s the hockey gods making things right. Did Staal get suspended for breaking Gaudreau’s hand with a slash? Nope? %^*! ‘Em. %^*! the garbage refs.

Is there a video or gif of knee to knee contact? I thought they clipped skates but may have just missed the camera angle and that showed it

I understand what you are saying. But I am not an idealist. the DOPS is going to consider who got hurt and the playing history of the offender. They just wont say it in the little video package.

You watch, when the chips are down the NHL will suspend Gio for two games so he can't play against the Oilers.

Looked into this...was told skates on the ice at contact, not an illegal Check to the Head as there is some head contact but head is not the main point of contact, elbow is tucked. Clean hit.

Its possible that the game against Edmonton has Prout, Hathaway & Peluso in the lineup (depending on a call up) and that because of poor officiating/decision making the league inadvertently makes the Oilers game much more volatile.

Is there no video of the knee? The only one I saw was during the broadcast and it wasn't the greatest angle.

The Dumba thing is a tough one and where thing get a little muddied. Backlund absolutely put himself in a vulnerable position. Even as the gamer evolves, you can't just Eric Lindros your way through the middle of the ice. But I was under the impression that the league was trying to move away from placing the "blame" 100% on the player in the vulnerable position, and shift a bit to unecessary hits on players in a vulnerable positions. The head wasn't the principle point of contact, but his head was sure vulnerable during the hit. It tough to view these things without bias, when its a Flame.

It pretty damn infuriating that a game that should have tidily been wrapped up at 3-0 has now become a potential loss of the Captain and Assistant captain because of garbage officiating.

And we're not even going to look at Dumba or Kunitz

Everyone calling this hit dirty is the reason it's called the No Hitting League now. Backlund had his head down and was in an unfortunate spot, Dumba didn't do anything wrong

Sorry, but that's the kind of predatory retaliation the league needs to do away with it.

Just because you believe a hit is dirty doesn't mean you go out and jump a guy and start wailing on him.

Whatever fines/missed salary Lomberg loses just becomes 'signing bonus' for next year hopefully. He did his job.

I bet Gio will get 1 game suspension, and then it will be used as the reasoning why he can't win the Norris because obviously Morgan Reilly of the Toronto Maple Leafs deserves it more.

What blind yokel looked at that video and made that conclusion?

Maybe he did, but he can easily explain it otherwise. I'm fine with the automatic penalty for instigation at the end of the game (although look at Kassian not getting one in the same situation). But unless someone overheard Peters say "go get him", he should be allowed to send on a tough guy in a tough situation.

Plus, I'm not sure why it's fair that the discipline would be on Lomberg (and not Peters).

I'm not saying that Lomberg and Peters dont deserve discipline. All the same, Lomberg going out and making that play was the right move. These teams play in a week and its good to send a message that players will have to pay the price if they take liberties.

Except target the head. I am a big supporter of hitting in the game but you can clearly see Dumba elevate to target the head.
