I wonder why the top 2 teams in the tournament are in the same preliminary pool

Group A was the top 4 teams, all given an automatic Quarterfinal berth with the top two getting byes to the semifinals.

That's the way the Women's tournament is set up now. The top 4 teams are in one pool and the next 4 are in the other pool. The top two teams of the lower pool play the bottom two teams of the upper pool in the quarterfinals.

It allows the lower teams to play in a few more-competitive games in the tournament, rather than just getting killed in a couple of games and then being relegated. It also gives the lower teams a chance to win a one game quarterfinal and be in the semifinal.

USA player just pulled a "Wideman"

Totally accidental but on the slow mo replay there is a reactionary crosscheck and it could look pretty bad out of context. If there were 100 gifs floating around people might get the wrong idea. Poor Wideman

Entertaining first period, stressful to watch.

Final figure skating group, with Duhamel and Radford, is up next.

Will be lots of channel flipping.

4th place Germans came out and skated really clean. not really in snyc that much - she's a much better skater than he is, but great job overall. Pressure on the Canadians to get on the podium.

Canadians seem to be flopping around a lot trying to draw a call?
