The warts in his game will always be there but I think he'll pop with Colorado's speed game, hope he helps crush the Oilers.

I don't think we can say it was a gamble or a dumb move on his part without knowing the full story. It seems pretty clear he didn't have much intent on staying in Calgary - maybe his preference was to be in Sweden instead of the NHL which led to him and his agents asking for more term and money than most thought was warranted, knowing he could fallback on returning home.

I've been one of his biggest cheerleaders since the Flames drafted him. I still love his game and think there is still unrealized potential (he lost a few years of development through the Flames' unwillingness to give him a chance early in his career and then obviously the ~two lost seasons). I obviously would have loved it if he could have realized that potential with the Flames, but I'm at peace with the fact that won't happen. Honestly, with the way the trajectory of the franchise has changed, the rest of his prime just doesn't really align with where the team is now. I hope he thrives in Denver.

Anyone who thinks he's a 3/4 defenseman who has proved himself. It could also be said that he and his agent also are overrating him. But anyone who thinks this is a major loss, is overrating him.
He was a 5/6 at best, and a 6/7 more realistically at worst.

By eating up $2.5AAV for two years, and playing 33 games. By paying lip service that he would re-sign and wanted to stay in Calgary, when if he was more forthcoming like Tkachuk, we could've tried to flip him at the deadline.

No one said that. Nice hyperbole. But, the honorable thing would've been to accept a discounted show-me contract, and give back to the Flames organization who handled it better than most other teams would have.

Not going to speculate on why he and the Flames couldn't come to terms as both sides had their reasons. I hope his personal issues are behind him and I'm glad he resurfaced on a good team where he may be able to play himself into a better deal.

These two positions feel inconsistent with each other. If he's just an unreliable 6/7 defenceman, what on earth would the Flames have been able to flip him for at the trade deadline? A 6th round pick maybe? That seems like an awfully low threshold for a "screw job".

If he tore his Achilles, and signed with another team after the Flames rehabbed him would you feel the same way?

He will thrive in the Avs system. Smart move for him imo

The difference being he’s hasn’t consumed 95% of my posts over the last month.
For a guy who is overrated it’s just weird he’s almost exclusively the only player you like talking about.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned - I'm definitely old - but you treat people well when they're experiencing hard times not because you're expecting a reward out of it, but because it's the right thing to do.

Yes. I legitimately don't understand why people are upset enough about this to boo him. Especially since most of those people don't even like him as a player.
He's a depth player who left. It happens.

I don't think his preference was Sweden. The players that abandon the NHL grind early to head back to Sweden usually have strong ties to a specific team or region - e.g. Joakim Lindstrom, Kenny Jonsson, or Oscar Moller. Another good example being Jonathan Dahlen signing that five year deal with his hometown team two seasons ago instead of taking the Canucks QO.
As a youth player, Kylington moved around a lot. He was playing for a different organization almost each year, which is unusual for the average Swedish youth star.
It looks like he's a guy that marches to the beat of his own drum. That's probably a contributing factor to why he slid so much in the draft, it's also probably a factor in why he took an unprecedented mental health break in a culturally old-school profession, and it's also the reason why he hasn't maximized his career earnings.
We've definitely thought about this situation a lot more than the 27 year old multi-millionaire NHLer living his best life though

To boo Kylington is pretty sillly. Yeah he sullied his name a little bit by not signing with the flames and I understand why some people would be miffed. Yes hockey is a business, but people in many businesses can be ####heads amd Kylington comes across as entitled in my view. The flames could have put him on LTIR and sent him down the the AHL when he was cleared. They instead gave him 33 games to hopefully return to form which is quite a gift for someone who would go on to play hardball during negotiations.
The flip side is though that he’s not a great player and isn’t guaranteed to be a full time NHLer next year, and there’s a greater than zero chance he’s in Europe the following season. We didn’t lose a Gaudreau or Tkachuk here, we lost a 27 year old defence man with minimal NHL experience who missed almost 2 full seasons of development.

What I love about this Kylington story is that:
- The Flames have a dollar-value and term in mind.
- They are sticking to it.
- They want players who clearly want to be here.
A far cry from previous GMs who will cave and spend money just because.

After that really good 21-22 season I was hopeful that he could replicate some of that alongside Tanev. I mean the 22-23 team missed the playoffs by 2 points. Having the previous seasons version of Kylington could have helped that team. He was a good #4 the previous season even if Tanev did help him immensely.
So yes it's a bit disappointing for me as a fan that things went the way they did and now after 201 games he's no longer a Flame when at the time of signing he was coming off a good season and was showing promise. Not blaming the player, just sad at where the Flames have fallen to after the first 4 months of 2022. Sorry that it makes people angry....I agree with how the team is doing things...but lots of tough seasons ahead for fans as there won't be a lot of wins.
I get why him and the team parted ways.

If he tore his achilles, he would've been put on LTIR. So no, I would've felt much differently.

Put it this way...if Erik Gustafsson had got a two year deal for this money played 33 games and put up 6 points, how would fans view the result of that contract.
Yeah I had some higher hopes that Kylington could become a good complement number 4 type and it didn't work out. I'll bitch about the misfortune of the situation because I don't think Treliving or the player did anything wrong. Just how it worked out.
