Sounds neat. Who knows...maybe he'll stick?

A couple modern/post-lockout examples off the top of my head:
- Brendan Smith
- Christophe Schubert
- Wade Belak
7/8 defensemen being used as occasional fourth line wingers definitely isn't as common as it used to be
Edit: I recall Jim Vandemeer also playing a few games at forward

I can't think of any modern or recent examples, but I probably just didn't notice when it happened.
It used to be a lot more common, especially with the goons, just to get them into the line-up as a deterrent.
I saw Montador was already mentioned. I seem to recall Jamie Allison getting into the line-up as a forward before. Phil Housley was tried at center before, but I can't recall if that was an emergency situation.
On the flip side and not Flames related, I recall Sergei Fedorov playing some games as a defenseman back in the day.

Brent Burns was drafted as forward and moved to defense by the Wild. I think later with the Wild hr shifted back and forth. When he was moved to the Sharks he was a forward then eventually moved back to defense

I had the wrong Ville...it was Vile Koistinen. Finnish guy who played for the Panthers up front in some eary season games in Europe after they had an injury two.
There used to be a few goons who were defenceman who'd end up as forwards in the NHL since it's easier to have a 3 minute winger than defenceman. But I remember Montador moving up a bit around 2002.
Who can forget Toby Peterson...he was a forward but the Oilers had so many injuries on defence and with their trademark depth at the position had depleted the farm. They tried to get the league to change his position so they could call up a forward instead and the league denied it.

Ville Leino on D would have been hilarious. That guy simply did not give a f about defensive play.

Don't forget Jamie Allison and Cale Hulse! I think Jamie Huscroft did the odd time as well.
And does anyone remember the time Dave King went with five D on a power play? If I remember right, Housley (who took the draw and actually played some centre for the Sabres back in the day), Patrick, Zalapski, Chiasson and Dahl.

Mark Pysyk also played as a forward for Florida relatively recently.

On Thursday nights I start my shifts out on D, but end up looking like a forward when I turn the puck over pinching and am too tired to skate back.

First Line Centre

Tim Hunter played a bit of defense in a pinch. He played defense in junior.
Paul Reinhart played some centre. He played centre his final year of junior.

Pfftt...back on Dec. 1, 2010, Brent Sutter played 3 defensemen at forward, or maybe 4 depending on what PP configuration he was using.

Kylington asked for more term in Calgary...lets stop the nonsense he didn't like living here and couldn't wait to get out. He wanted a longer contract than the Flames were willing to give him. He played chicken and lost when they signed Bean.

it's interesting given the current era of 4 F or 5F powerplays, but the Flames at times had a 3D PP with Reinhart playing up front (along with Suter and Chopper on the blueline) and it wasn't for lack of high end forward options
