Do you perhaps have an example of this gripe? There are like a million videos on there that both have advertising and say the word Covid. Are you maybe thinking this is related to videos purporting that it was a hoax?

Yeah, I just looked it up on Google. Apparently it is a demonetization thing.
Which, I get if the topic of the video is some crazy conspiracy theory, but just referring to it as a certain era ("during COVID") is not allowed. You must say it some other way, which is annoying.
When I search COVID on YouTube I not only get endless results, including videos that are just hours or days old and many from very mainstream sources (all with COVID right in the title of the video), but it also provides Google results directing to Health Canada and WHO right in the YouTube app.
Definitely either made-up or specific to some anti-vaxxed nonsense.

They will allow news outfits to talk about it, but I am referring to videos where the topic of the video has nothing to do with it. For example, a photography video. "I bought this lens during COVID" will be demonetized.

Do you actually have any evidence of what you’re claiming (and I don’t mean people self-censoring themselves due to not understanding monetization rules)? The first article you linked is from March 2020 when things were haywire and they demonetized COVID content temporarily, and the second article makes no mention of demonetizing videos for mentioning it. Like, how do you think all those grifters still going on about COVID and vaccines have made their money if talking about it would demonetize their content?
That’s also not true. Just cruising through the results, within about two minutes I found an SNL skit that mentions COVID, a filmmaker/“dad influencer” (lol) talking about how bad the COVID vaccines are for people, and a random “doctor” talking about how he got COVID.

I was actually watching a photography video the other day but it was on a different device and I can't find it. They were responding to questions and someone wanted to know when they got interested in it as a serious hobby. It was during COVID when everyone had to find something else to do, but they couldn't (or didn't) explicitly say that even though the intent was clear.
