Well for Elon, 'broke' is a bit of a strong term. I dont think the guy is technically 'broke' but more that it has to be understood that a lot of his wealth is tied up.

He doesnt have some Scrooge McDuckian vault of cash that he just has to take a shovel to and scoop up money. He's leveraged up to his eyeballs and his wealth has some serious liquidity issues.

He cant just roll up to the ATM and withdraw a couple Billion, there are strings attached to his money and I'd wager that the Billionaire investors on the other end of those strings wish Elon would just STFU, GTFO and go away for a bit.

Elon is rapidly approaching that Oligarch status where what he really needs to do is piss off down to the pub for half a decade, keep his head down, STFU, install some qualified people with sufficient resources and have a pint and wait for the s##tstorm he caused to blow over.

Because right now this has devolved into a full-blown 3-ring Circus and at the moment he is the King Clown.

If I didn’t know better I’d say that Musk wants Twitter to go under, but why pay $44 billion for the opportunity? I think he bought Twitter to support Trump but destroying it isn’t helping his cause. I’m confused.

I don't think he really had much if any ultimate motive beyond ego. He has a history of pulling legally dubious stunts on Twitter (see: taking Tesla private, dogecoin manipulation) and he finally pulled one that caught up with him.
