I agree that it is a bad metric. But I compared apples to apples, and for the entire term of the current government. Your 2016 starting point conveniently ignores that the TSX got hammered from October through December 2015, after Trudeau was elected.

If we're blaming him and giving him credit, let's look at the entire term.

He didn't take office until January 2016 though, am I wrong?

Markets don't wait - they react to information immediately.

He was elected on October 19th. That is when it was news to the markets.

I don't really see how that's his fault.

Early November, the Canadian system has a very short transition.

Two issues here:

1) it is usually extremely difficult to attribute market movement to general economic news. If you have a specific event, during market hours, and the markets react immediately and specifically to the news, ok. Otherwise, markets are digesting incredible amounts of information, and attributing to ongoing information is almost impossible.

2) however, if you want to play the attribution game, the only sensible and rational time to assess the reaction is at the time the event happens. If the market were to react to Trudeau being PM, it would be after the election, not when he took office.

Well point #1 would seem to indicate that you can't really say the TSX lost x because Trudeau was elected. To point #2, you'd probably want to try to attribute it to policy like a budget or throne speech, right?

Back on topic... here’s her speech. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Point 1) Yes, I already stated that it is difficult (I didn't start this conversation)

Point 2) No. The news is the election. If a budget announcement or throne speech had new , unanticipated surprises, then sure. But for the most part, the market knows what it is getting as soon as the election results are out.

At one point three young men tried to rush Thunberg, but organizers kept them back, said Joe Vipond with the Calgary Climate Hub.

Before the rally, Thunberg was confronted in the hallway of her hotel by right-wing media outlet Rebel News. In a 10-minute video posted to YouTube late Thursday, the Rebel employee asked Thunberg’s associates whether it’s appropriate to exploit a child with a mental illness.

“I don’t have a mental illness,” Thunberg laughed in the video.

Regardless if you agree or disagree with her message, she's practically a better public speaker than 80% of Canadian politicians. And she's just 16 years old.

wtf was I doing at 16?

Yeah. I don't even have a problem with them asking her some questions but practically stalking Greta outside her hotel room is out of line.

She laughed at them? Perfect.

Anyone suggesting she has a mental illness really is taking the absolute lowest route possible if they don't share her positions. What a cop out.

Thankfully, I trust most people are better than that.

Unfortunately there are examples right in this thread, and people thanked it. Pretty pathetic stuff.

it’s weird. Some people must not have older kids. They seem to be projecting the age of 6 onto anybody under the age of 18. Trust me, even 13 year olds are pretty intelligent. They aren’t these easily manipulated marionettes some think.
