I believe the spa at Grey Eagle also has them.

I float often in Shanghai. I love it. One to two hours in the tank leaves me feeling great physically and mentally.

How do we know we're not in a sensory deprivation tank now? And the real world is super chaotic and crazy? Yeah, think about that.

OK, time to go off your meds again. Or on them. Whatever you are doing now, do the opposite.

Try Acension in Airdrie if it's not too far for you. They have float cabins that are quite large and a great experience. I tried the same tank in Kimberley and it was great.

If you happen to be in the Edmonton area, Sherwood Park has this one:

From their facebook:

Ascension Float Airdrie

It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the closure of Ascension Float, for good.

Unfortunately, the expenses required to operate a Floatation Therapy studio are incredibly high and, especially in the current market and economy, it has proven to be exceptionally difficult to keep up.

We want to thank each and every one of you for floating with us, for helping to spread the word and introducing floating to this community. It has been an incredible couple of years and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Due to factors that are out of our hands, we have officially closed. Unfortunately the official closing of our doors happened a lot sooner than anticipated.

We understand that some people are going to be disappointed, frustrated and even angry at the situation and we are incredibly sorry to anyone that will not have the opportunity to use up remaining credits or gift cards, because that is the last thing we wanted, but, we also hope that everyone can try to understand the situation we are facing and forgive us for any wrongdoing that you feel you may have suffered as a result. It’s not our intention at all.

Thank you again for all of your support and we hope to cross paths again in the future.

Joe Rogan says he is frequently approached by people in the sensory deprivation industry that tell him he has driven the industry more than any other factor. He hasn't made any money off it. Joe talks about everything but he's reliably knowledgeable about 3 things: comedy, fight sports and fitness.

My wife likes going to Soul Float here in Calgary. She seems to really like it. It's not my thing.

Has anyone actually done this? And if so, what's it like? What are the benefits? Do you find it lives up to any / all of the claimed benefits?

(I'd rather hear from someone locally, than rely on the description on the proprietor's website...)

I do it quite frequently. I find that it does several things for me.
  • Firstly, I find it to be great for stress reduction and I feel much more relaxed when I come out of the tank. I don't usually listen to anything while in the tank and use my time for meditation while I'm in there, but it's great for that.
  • Secondly, my skin feels great. The high salt content seems to just make my skin feel much healthier.
  • Thirdly, my muscles tend to be very relaxed, especially reducing any tension I've been carrying in my neck and shoulders.

On the whole, I love floating and would buy my own tank if I was living in a place where that made any sense. I would gladly spend an hour a day in there if I could.

I second what JB just said. I am a fairly regular floater and his benefits are the same to mine. When I'm in the tank I am able to literally float away. I can't tell you how many times I've got the best nap or stillness in my life being in it. To me it centers me and puts me back into the head space that I want to be in.
