Yeah, I'm super selfish wanting to share what we have with others.
I own a place in Canmore. I'm good. I want other people to be able to do the same, though. I also want people who aren't even born yet to be able to go to the mountains to enjoy what I get to enjoy. I want us to plan towns for people to visit in the year 2094 since Lake Louise, Banff and Canmore are already bursting at the seams. The same way people in 1904 planned for us to get these great places.
I also want people who aren't financially well off to be able to enjoy the mountains. Have you seen how much a hotel is for a night in Banff right now? It's obscene. Demand for recreation in the mountains is way beyond supply. I think it's a shame the wealthy get to buy their way into these paradises while others get left behind. That's fataing selfish.
I even supported expansion of the Three Sisters Mountain Village that was shut down. Even had my letter read at a town council meeting in support of the expansion to make more affordable housing even though that is in direct conflict with my own personal financial interests. The NIMBYs crushed that project (for now), though. And guess what happened? My Canmore place went up in value 10% the NEXT DAY. I know the exact number because they're still selling units in my place and they literally went up 10% as soon as supply became constrained more.
So say what you want about me wanting more mountain towns, but selfish does not fit.

Lol yeah just split the valley in half. Animals are well known for their respect regarding imaginary lines humans create. Im flabbergasted that no one thought of this before. What better time to educate the wild animal if not now?
If there’s one thing I know it’s that wild animals are infinitely cleaner, more well behaved, and respectful of human boundaries than domesticated animals are. I see zero flaws in this plan. I’m in

I'm sorry but nobody is going to convince me that it's impossible to build another mountain town because I have seen a map before.
It's not like you head west and there is one giant mountain and then the ocean on the other side, and each side of the mountain is littered with towns and human development.
Disingenuous to the extreme. Like, you guys have seen a map of western Canada, right? Pretty sure there's room.

Don’t get me wrong I’m team pave the planet all day. The idea of “splitting the valley in half so the animals get their side and we get ours” is just funny is all. Raze every forest and build kitschy log cabins for everyone to stay in I don’t care. Never can have enough development

This thread has really run the gamut of topics.
Starts with dogs, moves on to Bears and now we're paving the planet.
Good times.

They bring their dogs to work and teach the underground Bear Revolution all on the taxpayer's dime!

I LOVE animals, and will probably keep adopting them while there are a bunch suffering alone in small cages at the shelter because we insist on breeding more of them. That said, I think the concept of pet ownership is totally messed up.
I still haven't heard a compelling reason as to why the life of a dog or cat is worth more than the factory farm chicken or cow that lives a dreadful life only to be slaughtered and keep the cuter dogs and cats alive to serve their largely one way relationships with us.

If you can teach a cow to rollover, I'll consider adopting one.

As everyone probably already knows, raising or hunting dogs and cats for food is common in some parts of the world. What many people don't know, is that it is completely legal and practiced in Canada as well. As long as proper animal husbandry and butchering practices are followed and the meat is properly inspected and sourced, you can eat dogs here. I know of restaurants and butcher shops in Vancouver that can get you dog meat if you want to pay for it. From what I am told, it is pretty similar to lamb.
So if you ever want to get back a dog-person who wronged you, invite them over for a dinner party.
