McAuslan from Quebec has some good beers. Creemore, although now owned by Molson, is awesome. There's a brewery near Ottawa, named Beau's, that is supposed to be rather good but I've never tried any of their beers.

AlleyKat! I believe its from Edmonton.

I love their Amber, and they always have great seasonal brews too. The Pumpkin Pi was like liquid dessert. Right now they have one called Fireside or something... its quite tasty as well.

There's the Great Western Brewing Company in Saskabush. I haven't had a lot of their stuff so I don't know how they rate. I've tried some of their draft though and I'd certainly drink it before Molson's or Rickard's draft.

A micro brewery that I don't think has been mentioned that makes stuff I like is the Okanagan Spring Brewery in Vernon (I think). I particularly like their 1516 Bavarian Lager.

I will second McAuslan's - good stuff. My wife LOVES their apricot beer.

I will have to try Beau's.

Another good one, and I'm not sure they are micro or not, but whoever makes Waterloo Dark beer, is a God. What a great, great beer that is.

And you can't get it out of Nova Scotia/the maritimes, but a couple of good micro breweries down there - Garrison and Propeller. Garrison Red is a great beer, one of my favourites.

Brick Brewery makes Waterloo Dark. They make a lot of different beers and they're a good alternative to the big breweries.

1516! I agree, this one is nice.

I'll also echo GreenTea's mention of McAuslan. They make a good pale and a super-tasty oatmeal stout, although I've had trouble finding the latter in Calgary.

I do like their stuff.

I'm also a fan of Granville Island Brewery, they make a really good Maple Cream Ale. You can find a lot of info about these beers at www.beercritic.ca although I don't agree with a lot of the guys ratings because he's a real snob. Good way to find new beers though. And he's from Calgary.

Double thanks on the Granville Island beer. Great stuff. A twelve bottle Granville "Mingler" is unbeatable on an early summer evening.

Whoa boy.

Haha, it was only 6.2 or 6.1.

I mean, not that I actually bought it and got slammed on it. Or made a Drink called the "Dirty Rum", which consisted of Ridin' Dirty and Dark Rum.

It actually isn't that terrible. It is pretty bad, but not quite as bad as you'd expect for the price. 6.79 @ Crowfoot liquor.

I would expect such a horrible concoction to contain Navy Dark Rum. That stuff is like pure poison.

My favorite Guinness and these

Maudite has a deep amber-red color with a rocky foam head and an appealing aroma of wild spices and floral hop notes.
It is spicy, vinous, and deliciously complex with a crisp hop finish.
Since May 1993...MORE

(moe-dzit)
Strong amber-red ale
8% ABV

La Fin du Monde has a brilliant golden color with vigorously effervescent foam.
It is midly yeasty with a complex palate of malt, fruit and spice notes followed by a smooth, dry finish.
Since July 1994 ...MORE

(la-faeh-doo-mohnd)
Strong triple-style
9% ABV

Also COOP has an ale called "Traditional Ale". It's very much like Traditional as it's Brewed by Big Rock and is 7.99 inc tax and deposit.

To bump this thread, I tried Unibroue's Ephemere on the weekend and loved it. It's only 5.5% but it's a kind of light beer with green apple flavour. It was very refreshing and I highly recommend it. You have to love Unibroue. My favourite brewery on earth.

To revive this thread, I went to 1600 over the weekend and had a St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale. It was pretty good for a fruit beer and has added St. Ambroise to the list of Quebec breweries I need to try more of. 1600 is actually a pretty good bar with like 30 beers on tap and a whole bunch more bottled. The selection rivals Bottlescrew Bills. Calgary desperately needs more bars with a great beer selection.
