Default New Government Website Posts Employers Not Paying Employees

Saw this website this morning (article in the Herald) and found it interesting. I searched a few companies and I was surprised to see what came up.

http://employment.alberta.ca/SFW/esjudgments-search.asp

I think it's designed as a tool to protect immigrants from getting scammed.

I wonder if any disgruntled employee can simply lodge a complaint and get the company they work for blacklisted, or what.

Cash Converters and Ironwood Grill are the only two I've heard of.

Interesting. At least one of those companies hasn't existed in a few years.

When I was mucking around with it earlier, I searched 'NW Calgary' and it populated Calgary businesses in the North West.

Wow, having gone through labour standards to get back pay before I think this is a great thing to publicizes. It's easier to ignore with one or two disgruntled employees bad mouthing your business, but to be listed on a government site along with the amount owing? Not something you'd want showing up on google.

EDIT: Ha, my old employer is even listed on there with over $10k in judgements against them. Guess I should be happy I ever got paid.

It's any unsatisfied judgement, not just employees who haven't been paid. It could be things worse than not paying employees, it could be minor things that aren't as bed as not paying employees.

There are likely a bunch of those that are for companies that went bankrupt, or otherwise couldn't pay their employees.

I love this. They do something similar in some states in the US for deadbeat dads who owe child support. Anytime you can out a deadbeat is fine by me.

Titanwall inc. 4315 - 54 avenue s.e. Calgary alberta $15.87

If I ran this company, I would just give whoever the $16 and get off that list.

Eh they were a marketing/web company long since gone under, so there's really nothing left to boycott. Last I'd heard the owners were in Ontario operating under a different name, so unless you're getting shady web/marketing quotes from bottom feeding companies in Ontario there's not much info I can give ya.

No company I have worked for shows up on there.

Was actually surprised two of them didn't.

I don't know who would even bother going through the motions for $16. But yeah, I'd want off the list.

My old Daycare and ECS in Medicine Hat is one of the worst offenders. Southview Kiddie Kampus owes like $188,000 in Judgements against them.

I also noticed Techtronics is on the list after thier Midnight Shutdown 10 years ago. So some of these could be pretty old Judgements too

Lots of judgements against this company. I assume from a bankruptcy.

Check this out -- we're not the only ones looking at this website today.
EDIT: Read the caption under the photo for SSEC's story.

Does Titan Wall even exist anymore? They had a large building out by springbank airport and it looks pretty abandoned now.

Default Two things

1). Any of the businesses named where I live (Lethbridge)have gone under, some long ago

2). I always new there was a lot of mis- management in the very cut throat restaraunt/ bar business, but didn't think it was nearly this bad.

I also find it interesting that there are a lot of small businesses that have gone TU yet still have manged to play their employees, and kept themselves off this list.
