Arizona, but not by a lot. Chicago basically takes on about 3.5M in real salary (Kruger + cheap depth D man since they'll need to replace Osterle) but gain $5,275,000 in offseason cap room for the next 3 years. Arizona cashes the contract insurance cheque from Hossa and get's two useful (better) depth pieces (1 cost controlled past this year) and an extra pick.
I see value on both sides.

I would've thought Panarin as well but patches and skinner would add scoring for sure.
I thought that maybe they'd prefer to add depth, and split the new cap out evenly. I have no Stanley cups though so what do I know. I no longer fear the hawks though, that's for sure.

MacKenzie Entwistle sounds like the name of a late-'60s British Blues ensemble.

Arizona continuing to make moves like this to skirt the salary cap floor, their issues with arenas and developing a devoted fan base as well as teams like Florida letting good players go to Vegas because they are too cheap and also have issues with attracting enough fans are things that kinda frustrate me about the NHL expansion.
Seattle and Vegas should have teams but they should have just been relocated out of those two sad organizations.
Why is there 2 teams in Florida? Come on!
Carolina is on the bubble for me as well but I hold them in a slightly higher regard.

Arizona didn't need this contract to reach the floor. Chayka is simply using an asset (cap space) he has used before to gain some assets and improve his team. I think any team that is near the bottom of the league and has space should be making moves like this. Especially on mostly insured contracts where it has little cash impact on you.

Hinostroza is a pest of the Andrew Shaw mold, a lot of energy, undersized, but fearless in net or corner battles. An "energy" bottom six utility guy. Oesterle is a bottom pair SAH D-Man, that was serviceable, young, and cheap, he was rescued from the Oil by the 'Hawks, last season.
Kruger, a Q favorite, was used as a checking Center, and was the 'Hawk main PK center, taking every other PK shift, when the 'Hawk PK was respectable, his loss was never replaced, and the PK suffered for it. "Freddy" was the last 'Hawk Center, besides Toews, that was over 50% in FO %. And was sometimes moved up to cover for injuries. The main thing, again, is Q trusts the guy in all situations.
I would have, actually, expected the Senators to take on Hossa's contract, but, the Dogs were also going to be a player for a cheap, dead money, contract, and due to Hossa's contract structure plus insurance, this "$5.8M" contract will, actually, only cost the Dogs around $200K in real money.

When will people understand that selling tickets does not matter. What matters is TV deals and the more cities you are in, the more money you get for TV deals.

I dunno if anybody should sleep on the Coyotes. Their goalie was ridiculous when healthy, they have improved the roster and their youth has definitely taken a step forward... could be more dangerous than expected

Perhaps, but more likely it is making room for Faulk.

Honestly, Chicago wins this deal. The Coyotes may have acquired a good player in Hinostroza, but Chicago just cleared Hossa’s 3 year contract. That’s going to help them a ton to remain competitive.

Also, avoids any extended cap hit for retirement, which would be a further three years.
Latest Chi rumors have discussions for Skinner or Pacioretti.

Reminds me of the Ween song "Buckingham Green". B G is a strip mall in New Hope PA, and also the names of two guitarists from Fleetwood Mac.

Ratings matter more than number of cities. Does having a continually boring team in AZ help with that? I doubt it. You'd get better ratings from having more games between teams people care about.
If the NHL had decent ratings from only playing games between original 6 and a few other teams the national TV deal would be better.

I don't think the Hawks have the assets to require Panarin.
Whatever Chicago would offer, it seems safe to say CBJ will get a stronger offer elsewhere.
