From purely stat looking, he’s definitely a great signing for one year at league minimum. Great bottom 6 addition. Treliving is having a great offseason imo.

It's early, but the general reactions on r/hockey are encouraging:
"Amazing deal"
"That’s a steal"
"This is ridiculous. He's an excellent player and should've gotten 2M easily. Good for the Flames, great value."
Some Pens fans reactions:
"Actually a really solid playmaker that had chemistry with Crosby. Responsible in his own zone, but won't be a specialist there by any means.
HOWEVER! Hands. Of. Stone. There is a reason his point totals are not great when he is next to Crosby every shift. He seems to think the goalie is the target. Can't count how many times Sid would send a perfect pass through 3 defenders to Simon just for him to shoot it at an unexpected goalies crest or pad.
Potential playmaking 3rd line winger is his ceiling, but for 700k that is great value as he is a good player."
"He’s great defensively and can be the final piece to a decent well rounded line. Also can plug in most places in the line up for short periods of time. Just don’t be surprised when the only goals he scores are accidental."
"Simon has been one of the best kept secret underrated players, even among the fan base, because he isn’t an efficient goal scorer. He tends to boost the scoring chances and actual goals of his linemates though, is a silky smooth passer and can keep the puck away from the other team well enough. Thing is, if he was even slightly better at scoring he’d be worth triple what he’s probably going to get ($1.5-2M range IMO)."
"Talk about underappreciated. Tremendous signing, especially for that money. Kept hoping we would bring him back.
What you're getting is a glue guy that does the little things away from the puck. Not many guys can play with Sid, and he's particular about who he likes on his wings. Sid loved Dominik Simon. Simon with Crosby and Guentzel were ravaging teams until he went down. He's a possession monster and an analytics darling.
He does have cinder blocks where his hands should be. He drove many people in Pittsburgh batty with his lack of finish. It was...not good.
But yeah, if you can get a guy who was a seamless first-liner with a HOFer and an All-Star who can drive play and do the dirty work to let your stars thrive for seven-hundred-####ing-thousand dollars? Yeah, you make that deal."

Treliving is seemingly attempting to take his "smarter than everyone else" game to another level by sifting diamonds from the rubble of other teams systems and europe.
Well............. better hope he's a frickin genius.
