This is exactly right. And I think he would buy into that given how well he played in the playoffs this year.

It’s not like the bottom line combinations will stick for long periods of time. Better that these guys learn to play with different players throughout the season.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Dube ride shotgun with Monny and Johnny if the plan is to keep those two together.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Dube
Tkachuk - Bennett - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Leivo
Lucic - Ryan - Simon
Nordstrom

Giordano - Tanev
Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - Nesterov
Kylington

Markstrom
Rittich

Yes, but Dube also wasn't playing with Tobias Reider in the actual playoffs.

LOL. Poor old Toby gets the blame again. Mangiapane was playing with Backlund. While Ryan is good, Backlund is better. And Reider had a hell of a POs, TBF.

The only trade I actually consider at this point as a go all in move would be a Hanifin + Ryan +?? package for Laine to give us a legit pure sniper for the top 6 and PP.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Laine
Mangiapane - Bennett - Dube
Lucic - Simon - Leivo
Nordstrom

Giordano - Andersson
Valimaki - Tanev
Nesterov - Kylington
Petrovic

Markstrom
Rittich

Do I think this happens?? Obviously no but of all the rumoured names that have been available the only one i would want to add to the core to push us over the top would be Laine despite his warts he would be the best pure scorer on this club since Iginla hands down.

Winnipeg’s supposed ask is a 2C and a top 4 D for Liane. Ryan and Hanifin is no where close to that.

That’s why I added an additional plus; Hanifin meets one of the two asks so what could we add to Ryan to push it through?? 1st and Pelletier?

Hanifin + Ryan + 1st (top 10 protected) + Pelletier for Laine?

I don’t think we are as far off from being able to meet the price as you make it out.

Well, if I’m Winnipeg, I’m asking for Hanifin and Lindholm.

Fair enough. If I were in Treliving’s shoes I wouldn’t trade Lindholm either short of some deal that would be impossible to say no to.

Bare in mind though, the Jets have team control over Liane for 5 more years. They are under no pressure to take pennies on the dollar anytime soon. Some GM out of the other 30 teams will likely step up and pay a steep price for a legitimate 50 goal threat who is only 22.

Agreed. Just dont think its wise for Flames to trade arguably our best all around FWD who can play RW and C very well, and is signed long term for 4.5M for a one dimensional winger who will prob demand over double what Lindholm makes per season.

The Flames have Lindholm cost controlled for 4 more years at a bargain rate of $4.85M.

As for Laine, I believe he is a UFA in 3 years, not 5. And he will earn $6.75M this year, then will be looking for $9M.

Lindholm has quite a bit more value than Laine, straight-up.

No argument here.

All I’m saying is the Jets are supposed to have asked for a 2C and top 4 D for Laine. To me that means some combination of Monahan, Lindholm, Hanifin or Anderson. Maybe the Jets would bite on Zary.

Regardless, I don’t think the Flames are in the Liane market.

Backlund and Mangiapane both struggled with Reider. As a line they were not working at all.

Reider had some great moments in the playoffs but most of those came shorthanded.

I mean, that is kinda close. A top 4D in Hanifin and a 3 or 4C in Ryan. Hanifin+Backlund possibly? Not sure I would though... Laine seems to have a very low GAF meter... I could be wrong.

I wonder if they would be interested in hanifin+Bennett as the basis for laine.

Ryan is a UFA at the end of year. Can safely assume he’s not moving the needle at all in a Liane transaction.

Don't think that is even close imo.

Top 4 dman who can't seem to take the next step and 3rd liner who plays well for a few games in the playoffs.. for a 22 year old 40 goal scorer

Who wants 9M a year

Hanifin is 23 and Bennett is 24 also

I'm not sure I would do it honestly
