A former British soldier left stranded in Kabul is leading an escape effort for 400 Afghans across a Taliban-controlled border.
Ben Slater, 37, decided to escape Afghanistan over land seized by the Islamist group after the U.K. Foreign Office failed to approve visas for the air evacuation of himself and around 50 staff, who are mainly Afghan women.
Quote:
A detailed plan for their escape, seen by The Daily Telegraph, has been sent to the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence in the hope that U.K. forces will assist their efforts on the ground and repatriate them when they reach their destination in a third country.
The location of Slater’s convoy and their final destination cannot be revealed for security reasons.
I'm praying they make it.

You know if the Taliban were taking over Melbourne or Winnipeg, you know a city full of white people, no one would need an effing visa to get on the plane, they'd sort that out later

I disagree. If melbourne or winnipeg had just been at war for 20 years they'd definitely need a Visa to get out.
Garneau confirms that around 1200 Canadians or people with links to Canada are trapped in Afghanistan. Canada is going to bring in 5000 refugees bought out by the US.
Horrible videos of executions that are taking place in Afghanistan by the Taliban.
The airport is firmly under the control of the Taliban.

I guess that is payback for all the training dollars spent in The Ukraine.
The worst part is this seems to show our soldiers were not allowed of base.
I don't blame our soldiers on the ground at all. I'm sure we've created a future of even more PTSD former soldiers.
I mean who was the idiot that evacuated the embassy, thus removing the ability to quickly process people on the ground.
There are a lot of stories of soldiers trying to help people and telling them that they would find someone to help with paperwork, only for that person not being there or never appearing to help the families. That's on immigration and foreign affairs.
Who refused to give the order for a week in terms of getting the air bridge started, so our special forces people and planes sat on the ground waiting for a go. That's on our defense minister who was too busy campaigning.
Who was the person that saw France and others going outside of the airport to find citizens and their families and escorting them through the gates of hell, and said, nope we're staying basically in the airport. Seems a waste of highly trained special forces soldiers and a lack of planning. that's on the CDS and DM.
When Trudeau should have been doing the right thing, and maybe recalling parliment for an emergency session on this or setting up a proper working group, he continued on with his campaigning.
Our response to this and our slowness on things when veterans groups were desparately trying to get people out and communicating with these poor people while screaming at the government. And when the opposition leader is writing letters to the PM and other departments in July screaming that bad #### was going down and its time to get moving. Well that's on the PM who as the senior leader of the government should have been coordinating departments and kicking their asses into high gear. But then again Justin doesn't see that as a role. He sees himself as more of a Social Worker in government meetings.
The people in immigration who came up with the utterly stupid and not thought out plan that involved massive forms and an internet requirement in a company with next to no internet availability, and maybe trying to stay alive, and when they did find a way to sign onto the portal only to find it buggy and constantly crashing. You aholes should all be fired as well as the minister.
The Soldiers are a victim in this as well. As much as they tried to help, they were hamstrung by this governments outright laziness and stupidity.

According to an estimate by the U.S. Government Accounting Office, the hardware left behind includes 22,174 Humvees, 8,000 trucks, 358,530 assault rifles and 33 Blackhawk helicopters.
Quote:
Current and former U.S. officials said there is concern those weapons could be used to kill civilians, be seized by other militant groups such as Islamic State to attack U.S.-interests in the region, or even potentially be handed over to adversaries including China and Russia.
