Default Pacific Rim 2 Confirmed for Apr 2017

http://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/pa...2-release-date

Quote:
Director Guillermo del Toro announced on Thursday that Legendary Pictures has committed to making a sequel to the 2013 international hit Pacific Rim, and the company has scheduled to release the film on April 7, 2017. Del Toro also announced that an animated series set in the Pacific Rim world will be released at an undetermined time before Pacific Rim 2 is released (and distributed in the U.S. by Universal Pictures).

“The characters I love will return,” del Toro told BuzzFeed in an exclusive new statement. “Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.” (The film’s original actors, including Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman, are expected to return, but official deals are not yet complete.)

I thought they destroyed the portal in the first movie.

I wasn't all that happy with Pacific Rim, I thought it was way too generic.

the best thing about the movie was the closing theme song which was kind of epic.

The trailer looked pretty enticing it was in the freebee section on the box so why not, but I thought the movie was pretty lame surprised to hear they would be making a second one
Glad I didn't pay for movie tickets.

Actually, if you set your expectations to zero, this movie was kind of awesome!

I'm excited for a sequel, but to be honest, not sure how the original storyline lends to one.

I enjoyed it as a giant mecha-kaiju fighting movie. Some humor but laughing at it, rather than with it.

As long as they cram in more mecha show references (well, eastern mecha going by the first movie), have exquisitely battles, and shows some level of awareness that it's not at all serious, I'm happy to go see a sequel.

I was really disappointed with it as well but I'm optimistic that improvements can as honestly del Toro would have to go out of his way to make the movie worse than the first. A cast of better actors and just a smidgen of a story that's not laugh inducing at times would do wonders as the battle scenes are pretty cool but the stuff in between needs to be less cringe-worthy.

i honestly did not get the love for the first one. I thought it was a concept that Transformers and Godzilla producers both left on the floor.

I really enjoyed Pacific Rim. It was just a blast to watch in theatres. I'm kind of expecting the sequel to be about the humans bringing the fight to the Kaiju. Full blown mecha war!

Unless they figure out how to create another breach there are no more Kaiju, they nuked the aliens responsible and closed the breach.

I'd like to see a sequel where the humans send the robots to invade a world of hostile pygmies that are no more then 6 inches tall.

and their most advanced weapons are wooden spears and slingshots.

I'd like to see the Kaiju seek their revenge by attacking from space. And Earth is saved in the last momnets by Voltron, leading to an awesome Voltron movie!

Except with a more genocidal outcome

I just have this image in my mind of the theme from pacific rim

Combined with the sounds of squashing natives and disintegration with plasma beams.

Outside of Charlie Hunnam, I dont think casting was a problem. This was the movie that made Idris Elba's Career

Charlie Day was awesome as his usual type cast "Charlie Day" role

Rinko Kikuchi had my native japanese friends fooled as she was also a native Japanese, but "americanized" her japanese accent to show that she was raised by Elba's character

Anyways, I know people were disappointed, but like movies like Starship Troopers and Machete, it's the kind of movie where it's over the top with its plot and characters and you just have to shut off your logical side of your brain and enjoy it for what it is

I don't know. I liked Starship Troopers and Machete because they were winking at you the entire time full of funny one-liners and some ridiculous scenes (Machete). It appeared Del Toro was attempting to make a fun (not funny) but serious Sci-Fi movie and unfortunately it was on the level of Starship Troopers without the humour and I still stand by my opinion that the acting as some of the worst I've seen in a movie of this budget. I generally like his work so I'm hoping that in the sequel if he decides to at least upgrade the story and spend some of the budget on actors.
