Did we squeak in? We clinched relatively late in the season but we ended up as the 6 seed.

Didn’t the Kings also take our spot in 2012?

I seem to recall that we clinched in game 80.

I’d say 2015 would count. Beat LA in game 81 to clinch. Won 4 of 5 before that game to be only 2 points up on LA (who got beaten by the Oilers the previous game to fall behind).

Any combination of 22 points picked up by the Habs or not picked up by the Flames, eliminates the Flames.

Any combination of 36 points picked up by the Flames or not picked up by the Habs, eliminates the Habs.

That said, season pretty much on the line once again tomorrow afternoon.

Fortunately Montreal's schedule appears to be challenging.

Toronto: 4 games
Winnipeg : 1 games
Edmonton: 4 games
Calgary: 4 games
Vancouver: 0 games
Ottawa: 3 games

The Flames schedule is a little easier

0 games against Toronto
1 game against Winnipeg
2 game against Edmonton
4 games against Montreal
4 Games against Vancouver
2 Games against Ottawa

Flames also have more rest

Just imagine the excuses if Montreal gets knocked out lol. McDavid's whining will be nothing compared to that. Unfair we had to play all those games!

I was just checking out sportsclubstats.com and it seems like the Flames can't withstand three regulation losses from here on out and still have a better than 50% chance.

So that's how I'll be looking at it: they can only afford two regulation losses.

This is why I haven’t fully given up yet. I think the habs are the worst team I’ve seen the flames play this year. I think their early record was bolstered by wins over ottawa.

They have lost 4 of 7 Vs. the Sens

they have dominated the Canucks and Oilers though

Following tonight's result...

Any combination of 18 points picked up by the Habs or not picked up by the Flames, eliminates the Flames.

Any combination of 36 points picked up by the Flames or not picked up by the Habs, eliminates the Habs.

Montreal losing to the Sens and the Flames beating them would go a long way...Montreal's schedule still gives a sliver of hope. Flames basically have a normal schedule with 12 games in a month. Montreal might be getting tired.

Why are we talking about this?

Flames have 6 points this month, Habs have 8.
Flames have 8 points in the last ten, Habs have 10.
Flames have 17 points since Sutter took over, Habs have 21.

Why are people talking like we're somehow closing in on the Habs? Is it Darryl that's making people this delusional?

Weed is legal in Alberta

The Flames can sure catch up scoring a goal a game

Flames have scored 1 goal in a single game in April, last night's, where they arguably played a much better game and deserved more on the scoresheet.

Habs have not looked good for a while, and play Edmonton twice coming up. While Oil have been bad against the Habs this year, it's not unrealistic to see Habs lose 1, or even both.

Then it's 3 games against the Flames. Must-wins obviously, but the Flames control their destiny at least. An Ottawa win on Monday which they are damn sure due for lol, and the same effort as last night against the Habs, and it's definitely not unrealistic. That ties the Flames and Habs for last playoff spot, same games remaining, on Apr. 26 (if Habs lose both to Oil)

Even if Habs win both against Oil, Flames would be 4 points back, both teams would have 9 GR and Habs still have the much harder schedule remaining.

Flames must-win 3 against Habs, and if they win those then playoffs are still a definite possibility and I will be cheering until the bitter end.
