Flames Hockey News 2018/19 Yearbook

Anyone seen this out yet?

According to Francis THN has the Flames #1 in the Pacific and going to the conference finals (losing to cup winning WPG).

Off to find a copy.

Only when it fits the narrative. In this case they sound like a fantastic wealth of knowledge and information.

What narrative? In this case, I think they're full of crap as usual.

In this case I want to argue the Flames will be a top 2 team in the West. This supports my opinion

When they mention the Oilers as a top team in the league it is a horrible publication that should cease to exist

Well they did pick the Oilers to get to the Stanley Cup finals last season. That's the equivalent of picking the Browns to get the Super Bowl a season after finally making the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

The Hockey News writing staff have been very consistently picking the Flames since the draft.

You see it in "winners" and "losers" sections where Calgary is picked with things like "could go on a long run".

Larkin this week had the Pacific by window, the Flames in the "opening now" range and talked about how they can do some damage.

Vegas odds article yesterday talking about the Knights said something like "one of the number crunchers on staff really like Calgary"

It's been pretty consistent. I think many of us have been burned and will be more careful, but the masses like the moves.

Picked up a copy of this yesterday. Was surprised to see how optimistic they are on the Flames' chances. I'll certainly be taking a "wait and see" approach as I still have some serious concerns, (*cough* goaltending) but it is nice to see that guys who are supposed to be plugged into the sport are very positive about your team's trajectory.

I don't think anyone (especially anyone who is a regular on this board) takes THN or most any publication as gospel.
Hell, I remember when Don Cherry picked the Flames to win the cup two years in a row!

Remember, they all had rough outlooks for LVGK last Sept.

But, it does feel good that "non-homers" are optimistic, no?

And, as someone once said, "This is why they play the games."

Is there a Calgary Flame on the cover of the Hockey News in Alberta?

I would love to get a copy sent to me in Ontario (we only ever have Leafs on our covers here.)

I haven't received mine yet, but I am guessing it's McDavid and Gaudreau. There is a regional cover for every Canadian area and I believe there are 3 or 4 different ones in the US as well.

Flames could do something. But we are in a tight division and I don't think the flames have done enough to be head and shoulders above the california teams who we never seem able to beat in the standings.

I'm also just not believing it because I don't want to jinx anything

I know it shouldn’t, but it annoys me they always put the Oiler front and centre and make the font blue and orange.
