All those sick kids in the Childrens Hospital would appreciate a cleaned up hat. Get some players signatures on it and you end up doing something good.

Speaking of the Oilers, I don't think this is true. As far as I know th hats go to homeless shelters. Why would they get stored at Rexall when they have nothing to do with that place anymore? Seems weird.

When I worked at the dome, the hats went into a box which fans had access to after the game. This was up to '92, so if this is true something changed.

I think one hat from every home hat trick in club history should be memorialized with the players autograph and placed in a permanent display case in the arena.

I'm thinking this list is probably 2-3 years old at least.
I actually thought they'd try to repurpose them as sweatpants somehow.

They are just hats...
I’m sure no one is banging on their door demanding a thousand used hats a year.

Has anyone on this board ever thrown their hat to celebrate? If so, did you regret doing it when you realize a replacement hat may be as much as $40 and the fact you have to finish the night with hat hair?
|
I tossed my one and only last year for Janko. It wasn't my favourite hat and didn't mind. It's the fun of it all. Since they were having a sale I promptly bought a replacement at intermission. That one I like more and won't be tossing it.
I like the display idea...they could all go in the back of the half tons. It would give the trucks a reason to be there.

I was in attendance when Cammy got his first career hat trick in Vancouver in 2008. I really wish I had a hat to toss on the ice, I was only a few rows away from the Flames bench too...

Vegas is on the list, so it can't be too old.

For the less fortunate having a hat to have some sort of shade while being out in the sun would be a far better use then throwing them out.

I am surprised that people try to reclaim their hats after the game. I always assume that you are saying goodbye the second it leaves your hand.

When reading the Oilers saving them for future use, did anyone think that was just a code for banner raising ceremony?
How about "#1 team with the most branded merchandise (hats, jerseys) thrown on the ice or into urinals"? That would hang nicely in Rogers Arena.

^ just like I can’t believe that someone seemingly took the time to contact all 30 NHL teams, find out what they do with the he hats, and then set up all the answers on a nicely prepared document

I'd like to see a Boston/Minny combo adopted here.

And I’m sure if there was an organization that wanted this, that would have been arranged. On top of the millions the Flames spend in charity work a year, maybe they donate enough brand new hats that no one needs used one.
