I still prefer the old Continental livery, but the new AA isnt bad. But shouldnt the blue part be on the left not the right?

It would be if you were looking at the other side of the tail. Think of it as the front edge of the tail being the pole of the flag and the flag flying back as the plane moves forward. The US military does the same thing with the reversed flag on the right shoulder of their uniforms.

I think it's kind of like NFL jerseys when the players have their right shoulder to the camera, the Nike logo looks weird because the swoosh is going the "other" direction.
Personal opinion: if they were going all patriotic, they should have just made the eagle more of a feature - like the intro to Colbert (ha!)

Acey has the best response on the thread about the new livery over at a.net:

That is one of the ugliest planes I've ever seen. Wow.

A decent picture. Stared at this for 10+ minutes. Position unchanged.

Hmm, that picture actually makes the tail section look quite good (in some very nice lighting conditions). I do like how the new logo still mimics the eagle from the previous one.

This. There's some detail in the stripes that I simply didn't see before. Makes me dislike the tail much less. Get some red and blue stripes on the outside of the winglet, make the flag go all the way down the side, and I'll go from strongly disliking it to simply "meh".

The good news is those of us that liked the old livery will still see it plenty in YYC. Until they get rid of all of their MD-80's we'll keep seeing that sweet polished aluminum look. I wonder what AA will switch to equipment wise when it comes time? 738?
Agreed with you Acey that they do need to add some colour to those winglets, and it makes perfect sense to just use the same stripes pattern from the tail. Or perhaps jsut use the new logo on them?

There is zero effect on N1 or N2 engine speeds with T/R's deployed. Fan bypass air is simply redirected. In fact, you can pull more thrust as required to slow the aircraft a little quicker.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the new AA livery. It looks like a busier Air France.
Perhaps I'd it's frosted like Air Canada? But I think it's too, I dunno.

My face is a bum!

The old livery was just getting old and outdated enough that it was going to be cool again

It is a shame, but remember that they need to move away from the bare metal look because of the increasing amount of composite parts being used in new airliners. Can't buff those nice and shiny.

I remember they were saying that when I was doing the Boeing Factory tour.
There was a plane waiting at the paint both that was completely grey (aside from the veritcal stabilizer.

Here are some photo's of various aerobatic mounts from our contests at CYRM and KCTB. Two of our members will be competing at WAC (Denison, Texas) in October. Everything looks better upside down
